Hey Guys,

I have not been active on this board for quite a while, I used to be on it almost every day. Anyway, I am still shooting every chance I get and still loving my 15-22.

I have what I think is good news. I love good flashlights. But I don’t love paying the big bucks for the top name brands, but I have done it. I have owned everything from cheap junk to Surefire. I always figured there must be a brand out there with top quality manufacturing and no extra surcharge for the brands label. I found it. The brand is Fenix. The model I have is the PD35. This thing is amazing. Very well built, feature rich, and a blinding 850 lumens for $75.00!

They put some thought into this thing. Five brightness levels with memory so it goes on at your last setting. When gun mounted you can turn it on and be in turbo mode at 850 lumens. Or it is useful as a utility flashlight that will not instantly drain the two CR123A batteries at lower levels.

The pressure switch is an $18.00 accessory, and worth every penny. Pressure switches are where cheap builds quickly rear their ugly head. This one has three switches inside the finger activation pad. It not only works, it takes a some pressure to activate them. It is not going on unless you turn it on. The end cap for the pressure switch also has a constant on switch built into it.

I have always considered strobe mode on weapon lights gimmicky. I still will not try this one if I needed it in the “real deal” moment, but if you like strobe this one has it. I was shocked by how well it works from both ends. When you are behind it you can see as though it is constant light. When the 850 lumens is flashing in your eyes you would be hard pressed to get a good shot off at the guy holding it you cannot see.

I did not buy their rail mount because it is a hex screw only mount. I am carefully shopping for a more versatile mount. That might be a small caveat because the barrel of the light is indented between 1/16 or 1/8th inch in from the rest of the 1 inch diameter body.

I do not mount cheap lights on my home defense weapons (the 15-22 is not considered one of them). That is where the good lights go. Now, all of my guns that I put a light on are going to have a great light on them. From plinkers to boom sticks, for the price of this brand they are all getting one. They are not chump change but they are damn nice lights for the price. At least the PD35 is, I plan on trying other models.

So, for what it is worth I thought I would pass it on. I do not recommend a lot of stuff but this light is the quality I have looking for at far less money than the big names.

Google Fenix PD35. They are at Amazon and a lot of other places. Now you can keep um in the black, even in the dark!

PS This brand has been mentioned on this board before. I saw all good comments. I know, I search.

I just bought a Streamlight Pro Tac HL3 which has 1100 lumens for 80 bucks at Botach. Great light that is super bright, but is a little on the big side for a tactical light.

Here it is throwing a beam out to 300 ft:

Nice write up and thanks for sharing. I use an el cheapo, made in China light I bought at a gunshow. It gets the job done as my need was for rabbit hunting. It lights their eyes up just fine. Sorry, no pics of the beam it casts.

same here, love lights i get mine and run them off purple spider fire 3.7v rechargeable from dealextremem.com

cheapest you can get the real deal, but you have to wait a little since they are in Hong Kong. Man they also sell a 'burning' laser, but not to the States since it is beyond our beam strength limit.

Try also Nitecore P12 or P16... for smaller: MH1C or RT3
NITECORE

I got the MT2C on eBay... For its size, it puts out an amazing amount of light. Is also small and light. Its selection for modes is good as well... User defined then twist the head for full power. I can't recommend it enough.

I also wanted the SRT6... Which looks to be a very capable big brother with infinate adjustability.

Thanks for the input about additional brands that make a quality light without paying for a label. Even though I am excited about the Fenix PD35 they do not specialize in tactical configurations much beyond this one. This will be my rifle light, but I would like to find something just as functional for my railed handguns. I will check out some listed in this thread.

The big question is how these lights stand up to recoil

A quality flashlight made by Fenix, Streamlight, Surefire, etc. should have zero issues with recoil. A cheap Chinese flashlight may work fine or **** out for no reason.

most all of the Cree heads will take recoil. Trustfires, Spiderfires, Fenix, etc have worked fine on my AR's. maybe not on a Barrett but mine have never flinched on any of my rifles AR-10 down.
