Why not have the Shield same as the full size M&P's? Ambidextrous slide stop and safety. I wouldn't think it would not be much of a stretch to make it happen. There are a lot more lefties out there and all the ambidextrous semi's are full size guns. As popular as the Shield is, it would make a great ambidextrous EDC singe stack semi.
