I bought a box of American ammo, in .40S&W, last week at the gun shop. Is this company still in business, they were based in Florida I think? I hardly ever see their ammo in shops anymore.
It functioned fine, and had less felt recoil then the CCI Blazer I was shooting at the same time, but I noticed a number of the bullets seemed to have light scratches on them.
It was never more then cheap plinking ammo, I just never see it much anymore.

I had some .45 acp in the 90's, I had to run it all through a crimping die as none of it was properly crimped, then when I went to reload it the primer pockets weren't a uniform size, any way I finally shot it all up and swore I would never buy any more of the junk, havn't seen it since believe they went out of business.

They're still in business. My stock in them is now worth three cents a share, up from the penny it was recently. Still not great since I paid close to 20 cents. I own quite a bit of their stock for reasons that I don't want to go into. Anyway, Amerc ammo has a really bad reputation and has for years, being the famous "square bullet" people of lore (yes, it apparently really did happen). The stock spiked some time back when they got some government and foreign contracts, but then a new batch of contracts that were hoped for failed to appear, thus some people (like me) lost a lot of money on their stock instead of making any. To be honest, I've never chanced their current products but have actually heard good things about some recent batches. For a brief time their .30 carbine was the only .30 carbine that you could get, and online reviews were claiming it worked from what I saw.

Have most of 6 boxes of 32acp they loaded. Bad c**p ammo. Gave my Walther PP and Kel Tec fits. Ony way I would buy more is if it was dirt cheap to use as componants.

I bought a box of their .45acp a couple years ago, thinking I was getting a bargain. There were many failures to fire in both a Sig P245 and a 1917 Brazilian. Definitely the worst ammo experience I've ever had from currently manufactured factory loads.

JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked some up from Sportsman's Guide a while back.44Mag 180 JHP does well,44Spec 180 JHP does well,30 Carbine some problems due to light firing pin strikes that didn't effect three other brands. My biggest problems were with 357 110 JHP-two of the first six I shot did not clear the barrel, most of the powder was not ignited, luckily this was noticed before another shot was made-no harm.I contacted American Ammo with info-haven't heard from them yet.Sportsman Guide did take them back after a little bit of a squabble, and I haven't seen them listed in catalog or website since.

I bought 3 cases of American .30 Carbine, and could not get the rifle to fire two shots in a row without a FTF. I called the CMP thinking it was the rifle and they asked me what ammo I was using. As soon as I told them, they said they have had more complaints with that ammo than all other ammo combined in the history of their (CMP's) existence! I then returned all three cases and bought 3 cases of Wolf and NEVER had another FTF with my M1 Carbine. Stay away from it,...........PURE RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!

There are insufficient words on a family-oriented forum with which to describe my feelings about AMERC ammo.

Hard to believe they are still even in business after all their crap ammo. I do wonder if they do it willfully or if the drunk monkeys cant work anywhere else.

AMERC used to (and might still) import ammunition in certain calibers that was manufactured by IMI in Israel. I have some .308 that Wideners sold a few years ago, which they confirmed was Israeli-made. The individual 20-round boxes have AMERC branding, but the rounds are headstamped IMI and it's all packaged in an IMI case with IMI lot numbers and manufacturing info.

IMI produces some of the best ammo in the world, so it's too bad that they got hooked up with a US distributor that has such a bad reputation.
