A friend is offering the above pistol. I'd like to hear from others who know about or own one.

It's stainless steel with a match grade hammer, trigger and barrel bushing. I haven't shot it but I saw him shoot a week ago. I feels solid and well made, but I know nothing about the brand.

While I have not handled one of Metro Arms (MAC) American Classic Commanders, I did handle one of their 5" Models a while back.

Like most of the other Philippine manufactured 1911s they appear to be a very decent value for the money. These pistols have a street price from about $550 - $650

Strange that they call this model "America Classic" since so many of the features are upgrades from that old John Browning 1911 that started this all more than 100 years ago. Those features include a lowered ejection port, memory groove beaver-tail grip safety, Novak style sights and more

See if he will let you shoot it before purchase,

I have owned an American Classic II 3 years ago. It was the utmost reliable. Ate everything I fed it. Superbly accurate. I foolishly traded it, and shouldn't have.
It was smooth, and no rattles.
I would suggest buying it. It won´t make you unhappy. Mine would put a smile on my face after shooting it.
It was boringly accurate, and reliable.
But now I think about it, that's pretty damn good.

I had an American Classic .45 that was really excellent in every way and I paid under $400 for it. It looked like a GI issue gun except for the shorter barrel and bigger modern sights, I hate the tiny GI style sights on some 1911s.

I had a Metro commander. Wish I still had it. Shot very accurately and the slid to frame fit was exceptional. Trigger was better than just acceptable.
Guy wanted it enough to make it very worth my while to sell it.
Looking back, I should have just said no.
I would buy another in a heartbeat if I ever came across one.
