Should it be removed from Television?

IMHO.... Those guys are dangerous... Especially the custom builds.
 
I find the show very hard to watch, so I don't. Should it be removed? The ratings will dictate that.

I saw part of a show once, they had made a gun for a pastor friend. Had a cutout Bible for storage. The owner of the business in showing it to him had his finger on the trigger before he even had a grip on the gun.
 
I tried to watch an episode a while back, I was far from impressed. Met them in person here recently, even less impressed. YMMV.

But that is the poop that sells commercial time, so until the ratings drop into the big hole in the outhouse, it will probably stay on.

They are the kind of people who make all gun owners look like dumb rednecks. IMO.

Edited Add: and I'm sorry, the guy that owns the place is about a quarter's worth of being light in his loafers from my P.O.V. A gun expert/producer needs to be a manly in my mind, Elmer, Sheriff Jim etc, not some So Cal wanna be transplant. JMO.

The little blonde however......Sorry, drifted there for a second.

Tried watching it once, didn't take long to change the channel...garbage.
 
I like Sons of Guns. Of course they're unpollished, they're from Baton Rouge. You gotta watch with a sense of humor and know they're making assault monstrocities, not guns. Seems pretty scriptted, though, like all "reality" shows. There's not a whole lot on the tube. My baseball team might as well be double A.
 
i can watch these shows until they start spouting off tons of incorrect facts and statements about guns and such........so, i make it about a minute or so :D
 
all of those shows are scripted, and the masses would rather see some stupid cannon get made rather than a hand crafted 1911 out of a block of steel unfortunately. there are only a couple gun shows on TV and this one is more enjoyable to watch in my opinion... the little blonde doesnt hurt either.
 
the show is scripted, the producers are going to put the parts on television they think they can sell. The people in BOTH shows mentioned here have to be doing something right or they wouldnt be in business. its REALITY tv. Take anything you see on these shows with a grain of salt, because I can guarantee you that the talents of these men and women wont be broadcast. It will be the trash that we regularly get to view. :mad:

exactly. i'm surprised that they showcase the sons talents as an artist. if you could see the 1911 that i mentioned, you would know that this family has talent that is not shown on tv.
 
It's entertainment, plain and simple. I enjoy it more than some of the other time-wasting junk that is on TV, like the Simpsons. Besides, it puts guns out in the forefront in the TV world, so if some kid somewhere gets inspired to get into the shooting sports from watching the show, that's a good thing.

I used to watch Sky King as a kid. Inspired me to learn to fly. Now that I am a pilot watching the shows is a bit difficult due to some of the blatant inaccuracies..but it is still fun to watch.

If I ever get to the Denver area I will make it a point to visit their store.
 
I watched one episode for about 10 minutes. As soon as the wife and daughter were trotted out, dressed scantily at best and made up like trollops, I turned the channel. It's just another scripted "reality" show. Sons of Guns was OK until one of the guys started dating the owner's daughter. I stopped watching them, too. When will these idiots figure out it's about the guns?
 
Should it be removed, maybe. But there is plenty of far more hideous programming that needs to disappear from the airwaves before we need to concentrate on American Guns.

Personally, I watch it. It's about guns and we don't have enough shows about guns. Yes, at times they don't do things safely. They're also adding drama more and more, and that irritates me. As far as the shop is concerned, I would never sell him a gun or buy one from him. When your gun dealer has a helicopter you know you're getting ripped off either way.

I find Sons of Guns even worse. We need more shows like Top Shot and Triggers. There are other shows on the less mainstream outdoors channels, but I can never seem to find when they're on or they're on at four in the morning. :(
 
The TV show is ok. Id rather be playing with my guns then watching someone else play with theirs ;)
 
Now the reality show craze if focusing on guns.

Good thing to show guns in mainstream media besides criminal misuse.

Bad thing the 'stars' are blithering idiots and really bad actors. Don't know if their place is real , or just staged , but it's hard to think those butchers could make that kinda money doing what they do to/with guns.
I see many people getting drunk , going into the garage , breaking out the tools and ruining many nice guns.

Oh well!

Just like with the custom motorcycle builder shows a few years back. I've been riding and working on custom bikes for many , many years. I've actually seen some of these 'creations' by reality show builders up close and I wouldn't even let those clowns wash my bikes let alone work on one. And no way I'd ever ride one they built.
 
Upgraded my Dish Network last year and had to reprogram our record list...American Guns & Sons of Guns were left off the list.

The one show I did catch a few minutes of had R.L. Wilson in there appraising a couple of Colts for authenicity. That one kind of surprised me, even though R.L. Wilson is probably the top old Colt expert in the country, he is still a felon.

The show would be better if it weren't for the idiotic "gunsmiths" the owner has working in the shop. It's painful to watch them hack at metal for 40 minutes with a major screw-up just before every commercial break. Then at the very end of the show the gun is rolled out to the customer after it was obviously finished by real gunsmiths behind the scenes who know what they are doing.
 
Putting a camera on a few real working gunsmiths and/or engravers for 30min doing work would probably be interesting for alot of people here,,but it wouldn't sell ad time for a network show.

It would become a video more appropriate to search for and view on YouTube for those interested.

With out the reality show type yelling & anger, hissy fits, throwing stuff around, slamming doors on the way out, and Jr.High dating problems with the owners kids ,,no one will watch very long,,or return to watch again.
..and stuff has to blow up when fired at when test firing is done too

Wanna sit and watch... dents being removed from an XE Fox set of bbls? Then perhaps figure out why the single trigger on the Winchester 21 doubles on occasion.
Have to card the latest finish of rust blue on the Mannlicher Schoenauer that's had 9 'scope mount holes filled and the markings re-engraved.
Ready to start engraving work on a trap gun and restocking a Win92 carbine.

If the tv show is indicitive of how they prove a concept and conduct design suitability testing, they are dangerous. It appears they fiddle with some parts then go out back and shoot it once and call it good. No sense of doing a design fmea or anything resembling an engineering approach. I for one would never shoot anything either company fiddled with!
