The next panic is probably going to happen in 2014 with the next election. If the ammo industry doesn't recover by then it may never fully recover.
Back to normal? Are you freeze dried or doin hard time?

You're preaching to the choir Sir......and while I dare not speak for the rest of us,I for one have explored numerous avenues to keep my modest cache replenished, employing both the internet with it's many search engines and legwork as my very first post attested to.....Not true at all and not a kind retort either.
Ammunition availability is obviously localized. Folks who prefer to sit in their armchairs and shop on-line are going to be SOL for awhile, IMO.
Ditto folks who shop the same stores they always did and never venture outside of their comfort zone.
Folks who only shoot one caliber, most notably 22 LR, will feel the pinch more than others.
Folks who would rather eat their own cylinders rather than paying the prices offered by the secondary market - ditto.
But ammunition is out there and in places, available in abundance.
And I will shout this until the electrons quit firing - buy enough of a stash to last for several years. Get a handle on how much you shoot in a given time period and plan ahead. Ammunition does not expire and if you're like a lot of us, you can find a place in the basement, garage, or a closet and put away several thousands, if not 10's of thousands, or rounds.
If you shoot 50 rounds of 9mm a month, multiply that by 12 months, then again by what - 5 years? If you can afford to buy 3000 rounds, why not?
If you're waiting for 2010 prices, forget it! Place your firearms in the Classifieds and use the proceeds to find another hobby.
If you can find ammunition for pre-panic plus 20%, you're not too far off the mark and you better grab it.
'Cause the Dems ain't finished by a long shot. Don't get caught "without" again!
YMMV.
