Ammo availability almost back to normal now

I've noticed bulk 22lr coming in a bit more, but only a case at a time, and is gone fast. People scarf up the bulk packs immediately, but the 100ct sleeves sit longer, and more are available. 9mm and 22lr go the quickest. It almost seems "normal" for there to be a few in line for 22lr bulk when it comes in.

That's because the re-sellers dont want to fool with 100 round boxes of 22, there is no money in that. That's one of the reasons I believe 10000% that the "ammo problem" is caused by gougers. Locally at Dicks and WalMart a while back they had some 100 round boxes of remington and federal lightning that sat on the shelf for almost a week. The CCI gets nabbed up, but the 100 and 50 round boxes of other stuff dont sell. The people who "really want to shoot" will buy what they can get. That's why when I see it on the shelf after say, 2pm, I know that the shooters must either not know about it or the mythical 22 shooter who buys 1500 rounds (the 3 box limit) at a time really dont exist.

Amazingly I was able to get some 9mm 100 round boxes at WalMart this morning, I was the only one there when they started selling at 7am, so I guess the gougers were slacking or are broke, or there was a better score somewhere else.

Its not almost back to normal in my area. 20% at best. Very little 9, a touch of 40, only some .22 shorts, very little 45......it is heading in thee right direction but its slow.

Not 'normal', but my local Academy has pistol ammo in .40, .357, .38 Special, .45 LC. But only the SD/expensive varieties of 9mm. Oh, and still no 45ACP or .22, but they said they get it every week - though there's some guy who camps out every day it comes in, they said he gets there at 4:30am so he's first in line (three days a week when they stock) and buys all the .22 because he thinks the gubment is going to outlaw .22. They said he must have a warehouse full by now.

Edit: Academy's prices are about 10%-20% higher than 'pre-chaos'.

Sorry but Academy limits each person to 1 of a caliber. Given you say they recognize this guy, the most he gets is ONE of the .22

These stories are like big foot!

A 5 year supply for me based on last years usage means 1,000,000 rounds which is an amount I don't have space or the cash for considering the price of ammo these days. At nearly 40 cents a round for 9mm, 45acp pushing 60 cents a round for WWB of all things and 357,40cal and 38 special nearly impossible to find at any price, its getting to the point where one must decide to continue in the hobby or find another hobby.

I miss those days when all I had to do was place an order online and it would be at my door by the case a few days later. Instead I have to search every outlet, stand in line for hours just to get a box or two of ammo if there was any. No cases just a box. Granted there were a few benefits from being in line and one was the purchase of a 4 inch 586 in 98% condition and a tip that led to a 10/22 takedown purchase. That and some new contacts helped with the time spent waiting in hope of ammo.

The worry about replacing any ammo I shoot and its cost is ruining the hobby for me. Probably why I have shot less than 500 rounds in total this year vs the 20,000 I shot last year.

My math might be off, but 1,000,000 rounds for 5 years would be 200,000 rounds a year. That's a lot of shooting. I believe you meant to post 100,000 rounds for 5 years for 20,000 per year.
