Ammo for shield 9mm

Federal HST 9mm 147 grain

I'm using Hornady Critical Defense in mine right now due to availablility locally. I keep looking for the Federal HST and can't find any yet but I'd probably use it based on the Ammo Quest videos.

For practice, I haven't found anything that doesn't work from gun show reloads to Federal, Blazer brass etc.

Norm - they are out of stock at the moment but try Cheap Ammo For Sale | In Stock Ammunition For Sale. I like how they only will list an item if it is in stock.

Anybody using Horn critical defense 147 XTP in their shield? Picked up a box the other day but haven't shot any yet. Something I noticed off the bat is that it's slightly harder to load the mag with these.

Shield ammo

Mine shoots anything. I just started loading 9mm 125 LRN and it likes them, Mostly I was shooting factory FMJ, but cost and finding them ,I thought I would try lead 9mm. I load 45acp lead and 9mm FMJ subs for my suppressor.

For practice, any halfway decent brass FMJ works for me.

For SD, I use Winchester Ranger T-Series 147gr.

Hey fellas, I am new to this forum and just got my first pistol, the shield 9mm. I have been doing some research and it seems like the 124 gr seems to be the most popular choice for best ammunition to put though the shield 9mm.

There are a great many effective 9mm loads these days. It is not like it used to be back in the 70s and 80s.

Get a "premium" load from Winchester, Federal, Hornady, Speer, etc., and you will be fine. My favorite after the FBI trials last year is the one they awarded a contract to, which is sold commercially as the RA9B, but it has a special FBI catalog number of Q4392. The previous FBi load was the previous generation of this load, and it had a catalog number of Q4364. It is a 147 grain load. It is not a +P, and works great.

I handload 9mm for all my range needs, quite a lot of rounds monthly, and my 9mm Shield eats any brass cartridge brand, and any weight lead cast bullet, between 105gr and 155gr. As long as the OAL of the cartridge is at or slightly below SAMI spec, my Sheild is a pig and will eat anything without issue. I've put over 4000 rounds through the pistol, and I've never had any factory ammo fail to cycle. The few handloads (maybe 3) rounds that have failed to cycle were my fault, too long OAL.
