Ammo Pre10

I have some early post war snub nose pre-model 10's. I was wondering what ammo you folks liked to shoot thru your guns? I was thinking something in a lead round nose. Would that be best, if so, what brands. I know some can be really dirty. Thanks for any advice.

I have bought some 148 lead wadcutters. They are accurate and comfortable to shoot. I also reload my own 158gr LSWC with 5.5gr sr4756 for accurate and comfortable target work.

Had some 130gr LRN from Remington that were OK.....cheap enough, but not great.

Standard velocity 158 grain bullet loads are what the sights are regulated for, so that would be my preference bullet style doesn’t matter, some will get better accuracy with semi wad cutters others with round nose. 148 wad cutters are light in recoil accurate but may not shoot close enough to point of aim depending on your demands and the individual gun involved

Standard velocity all lead bullets would be perfect for the majority of shooting. You can safely put a few all lead +P through it if you need to. For my 1954 M&P Snub, I use some inexpensive factory round nose for range work.

These revolvers were sighted in with 158 grain standard velocity lead round nose bullets. Unless there is a defect from excessive shooting, shooting over-pressure loads, or shooting obstructions from the barrel, they are perfectly safe with standard pressure 158 grain ammo. Also safe with 148 grain target wadcutter ammo. I suggest keeping the use of +P ammo to a bare minimum. Yes, they will shoot it, but +P ammo will accelerate wear.
