I have a model 19-7 that is unfired. I bought a few boxes of ammo for it over the years:

357 158GR SJHP MAGTECH 357B
357 158GR JHP Hi SHOK FEDERAL 359E
357 125GR JHP FEDERAL 357B
38 SPECIAL 158GR FMJ MAGTECH 38P
38 SPECIAL 130GR UMC REMINGTON

I have been reluctant to fire my gun with all the problems that have been discussed with using less that a 158gr bullet in the model 19. I am obviously confused.

Please excuse my dumb question, but would someone please give me direction as to which of the above would be safe and not damaging in my gun.

Many thanks for your consideration.

I have shot every 357 imaginable out of my 4 inch model 19. The model 19 is a k frame, and if full power 125 grain ammo is continuously fired from it I have heard it will cause premature wear on the gun including flame cutting. If your gun is in good shape you should be able to fire any or all of the loadings you listed without any concerns.

for the amount of ammo you are talking about any of those rounds would be fine if the gun is in good shape. Obviously the .357 rounds will wear the gun more than the .38special rounds would. that being said if the weapon is truly unfired (not just unfired by you) you might be better off not shooting it at all.

You sure have a lot on your mind from chit chat.

I might as well tell you that ammo is expensive................

and you should not shoot unless you have good eye and hearing protection, to add to your dilemma.

That's the first time I'm hearing about problems with 158gr. That's what it was designed for and most police departments issued 158gr 38spl.

The problem for K frames are light and fast 125gr bullets but you'd need thousands upon thousands of rounds for the problem to surface and even then it may need more ammo or may never surface at all.

Thank you Arik

I am sorry to have confused my question.

I was particularly concerned with the 125GR, but listed all my stock to included the 130GR and 158GR just in case there was something more I should know.
