Might bite the bullet (no pun intended) and by 1000 bulk. There is Federal 223 for $299.99, or PMC X-TAC 5.56 for $299.99. Which should I go with?

I like the PMC better, but that's me, plus the PMC is 5.56.

Where is this deal, can I ask? I could use some 5.56. Thanks.

Cheaper than dirt! Get em while you can. I am about to place an order now. Think I'll go with the 5.56 since I've never shot any, only used winchester .223 during the short time I've had the Sport 2.

Yup, cheaperthandirt.com

and Kadonny, last I check (2 mins ago) they still had them both in stock. (I was at least able to add to cart, not sure if that still indicates they have some available)

Well...as a newbie, dare I ask why?
Bad customer service. And I don't mean when you have a problem and get the wrong product or defective product. They don't honor their prices even when it's accidental. They'll cancel your order and allow you to buy at a higher price. I'd even overlook that since pricing mistakes are rare. However if they sense a panic buy coming, and there have been a lot in the last few years, they'll cancel all orders, jack up the price and resell it again. If something happens tomorrow that negatively affects firearms they will cancel the order you placed today as long as it hasn't gone out yet

Aside from that they jack up prices any time a panic happens. I don't mean a little either. Their 556 will go from $299 to $999. Mags go from $12 to $120. We can argue it's economics and all but as far as I'm concerned they see customers as cash cows because other honest companies sold their products for the same price untill they were forced to raise prices because their price had gone up

Wow, I had no clue. I've heard of price gouging, especially at smaller gun stores during the obama years, but nothing like that. That is straight up thievery in my book. Thanks for the insight...looks like I'll be looking for other sources for ammo. What would be the go to online retailers that tend to have great deals on bulk?

For free shipping by the case check out Target Sports USA. For instance, right now they have Seller and Belot 9mm 115gr. 1000 rounds for $199.80 with free shipping

SGammo is also great and although they don't have free shipping their combined price is within a dollar or two of Target Sports USA.

Freedom Munitions is another good one although they mainly do remanufactured

Just Google the words Cheaper than dirt price gauging and take a look at the images

Holy ****! I really hope no one actually supported these thieves and spent those prices. Good lord...I feel guilty now..

It's all good. You bought it at a good price, enjoy! No harm in that. And I'm not trying to tell you where you should spend your hard earned money, this is just so that you can be informed and make your buying decisions as you see fit. And if you decide to still do business with CTD that's totally cool too but now you'll know what to expect should something happen

Of course people bought and still do. There were many new people to this sport when the panics happened. Many first time buyers who were never into guns but weren't against them either .... decided it was now or never. And of course there are those who don't care and will buy as long as the price is good

Live and learn, vtecluder617, it's not your fault for not knowing. Now you do.

BTW, Arik gave you some good places to buy ammo.

Aside from the ones he mentioned, Palmetto State Armory also has good sales on ammo with free shipping on a fairly regular basis.

Welcome, by the way.

Forgot about Palmetto. I don't do much business with them simply because of the shipping charges to me however they do run specials like 500 rounds and 10 mags for a good price with free shipping. Or free shipping if you buy more than 10 boxes....etc

Exactly. Works out quite well in those cases and I've taken advantage of such deals on a handful of occasions.

I sometimes do business with Palmetto, as they do have some screaming deals with free shipping on occasion. However, for every silver lining - they pack horribly, ship unpredictably, and in often recycled cardboard ammo boxes. Stuff arrives with internal boxes broken up, and yelling "AMMO" for anyone who sees the box on the doorstep. Not at all a good thing in my neighborhood.

SGA repacks in plain boxes, so not so brutally evident, but they charge for that.

Regardless, I try to be home for deliveries, but it can't always sync up.

As to CTD, what was said above. I have had the order cancelled / price went up experience. Never had that with SGA or PSA even in the bad days.

I wouldn't presume to tell anyone else where to buy anything. There are those that like it that CTD jacks up their prices because it means that the stuff they want will be available even if it is extremely expensive. Some people can afford it. More power to them. But I won't support a price gouger. It they were selling food and water for prices like they do in emergencies they would go to jail. Some of us think ammo is another staple of life especcially in times of high prices. But to each his own and YMMV. I just know I'm not going to buy from them for the same reasons already listed.
