I spent today traveling around to 5 LGS's. There was ammo everywhere! I saw all kinds including 30-30 and 30-06. Plenty of 38 special. The smaller shops all had 9's and 223's. At one of the larger shops they had pallets of all kinds of ammo. I even saw cases of 45-70. It was hard to move around in the shop there was so much. The manager said they actually had to slow down the deliveries because they were running out of room to store it. It is the most availability I've seen in two years. Primers? I couldn't find one box at any price. Hopefully, we don't end up with some kind of trucker slowdown to send everything back to square one.

Let it sit until they choke on it.

Then maybe prices will come back somewhat to normal.

Some people just can't figure that out. Just this week a local shop put out ammo that the owner told me they paid retail prices for. They marked each box up several dollars and I watched a guy buy probably 40 boxes of various caliber ammo from them at insane prices.

If you are scared and have no ammo, no price is too high.

What ticks me off is that ammunition manufacturers are cranking out gluts of loaded ammo now instead of selling the Primers. They are simply doing this because they can make much more selling finished ammo than components.

If they have enough components to launch a new "unwanted and (IMO) useless caliber" "the 30" - new pistol cartridge from Federal, then they have plenty of manufacturing capability for Primers. I have also noted Canada is floating in Primers & components - but they can't sell them here.

The rich get rich and the poor get poorer.......

That's because the rich count on the poor to buy their 'stuff' at ridiculous prices..... and, the dummies do just that.

There is NO amount of fear or need that will ever make me pay the prices that the smart money is charging....

DON'T BUY....

IMHO of course,
J.

You can't really blame the shop when they're paying higher prices at wholesale. The real issue is that the results of printing money hand over fist for decades is finally coming home to roost.

There will have to be a major reset for prices to go back to where they were even 3-4 years ago.

Honestly, don't expect businesses that purchased ammo at inflated prices to really reduce the price below what they paid, until they blow out their inventory prior to closing their doors for the last time! No business (except for perhaps the US government) goes into business with the intention of selling product at a loss!

Someone desperate for ammo will buy the ammo at an inflated price, because they either want to go out shooting or they want an ammo reserve for the new firearms they bought, in anticipation of SHTF!

Remember, not everyone is a reloader or caster like many of the good folks here!

Ok. Don't buy it. So what is the option if I need ammo? Should I give up shooting so that I can make a point? The only thing not buying will do is shrink production. Any drop in price would be temporary and would go away as soon as the excess is depleted. Then you go back to square one with less production. The answer is to be smart about how you buy. Now is not the time to stock your zombie bunker. But if you like to shoot and can afford to buy ammo, then buy what you can afford and enjoy your hobby. If you keep your guns in the safe to make a point, then good luck with that.

I load all I need. Got dies for about 35 to 40 cal. Buy
primers by the 5k. Powder in 8 lb jugs (always have 2 8 lb
for anything I shoot a lot of). Could last for another 5 years
without buying anything. I shoot competition and have seen
all this before....a couple of times!
