My grandson wants to talk to me about getting a gun...................

I will tell him to find the ammo first!! Then buy a gun.

Never thought one would have to but the wagon first, then the horse.

What is out there...............maybe 9mm or 45APC for the best chance at large volume ammo sales and where ?

thanks

You should show him how to reload.

The ammo is coming back, but slowly. Cabela's is selling Herter in their stores, but not currently on-line.

I see 9mm more often then 45. I don't know about large volume sales though. I usually have to bring a friend and go on more than one day searching, but much like your suggestion, I made sure to get about 300rds before I bought my 9mm (which was my first handgun).

I have only had my 9mm for about 3-4 months and I have put just under 500rds through it, and have an additional 600rds I have collected since then if that says something about the amount I have found.

I see 45 a lot more around here. Keep in mind what comes in seems to be regional

"Teach him to reload"......................

His last year in High school with girls and with every thing that kids do now a days .... right.
I don't think that's going to happen...........

Thanks for the ideas though.

Beware of Dicks Sporting Goods.
I have been telling my wife for months how hard it is to find ammo here in Florida.
Yesterday she came home all excited that she bought some ammo for me from Dicks Sporting Goods. She paid $29.99 for a box of 20 .223 65 gr. shells! Plus she bought 3 boxes. I did not tell her they ripped her off as she was so proud that she found ammo for me.So be wary of Dicks prices. People are buying ammo (at 7:00am) from Walmart at fair prices and then selling it to the LGS and Pawn shops who intern are marking it up to unreal prices. I have a job so I don't have the time to be at Walmart every Monday and Thursday when they restock the shelves for my 3 box limit. I talked to a Walmart worker and he told me the same people are there buying up the entire stock.
Thanks for letting me rant!.

He might surprise you. Its always good for a guy of that age to have some solid hands, and mind on hobbys to keep them grounded. A little focus is always good!!

Localy 22 shorts are to be found, thats a good place for any kid to start. A simple .22 single shot and a box of shorts has been a starting point forever. They learn to sight/breath/touch off the round properly before they get to worry with scopes/semi-autos etc.

You have to see what's local to you. In my area 9mm is like a white elephant, 45acp can be found in every store but not in any real diversity.

My local Sportsmans Whse got more ammo in yesterday that they have in the past month total. They had a shopping cart full of primers and a cart full of powder. They had a cart full of 525 Rem 22lr. If this is a sign maybe the madness is winding down.

When I make the trek to Wally World to the ammo case, besides the usual selection of shot gun gauge, I see lots of .17hmr caliber. Nothing anymore in .22, .38 or .9mm. But lots of the .17 at good prices too. I wouldn't mind purchasing a revolver in this caliber if that's all the ammo I could buy.....at affordable prices.

Check ammoseek.com

9mm is available for .32 a round. Also frequent Walmart early in the morning.

My local Walmart seems to have .38 and .40 on the shelf most days. They "claim" that they aren't getting any 9mm on the trucks.:eek:

The ammo shortage isnt getting any better. Still spotty ammo!!!

As long as the bullet hoarders have the panic population to sell to, the bullet shortage will continue. I just saw a site that was selling (1) box of Remington Golden Bullet .22lr 525 brick for $169.00, plus shipping, of course. If I went back to that site, I'm sure its already been sold. At 8 times the "normal" price, the bullet shortage WILL continue. The hoarders will continue to line up 2 hours before the store opens, buy out the inventory, run home, put their goods on the internet, and so on and so on.
