I did not do the math,, YET,,,
but, could a newbie get into reloading of 9MM for the cost of 6 boxes of bullets??

That seems like a no brainer,, other than getting primers,,

So, I recommend starting reloading something that uses LARGE primers, rather than small primers,,

IMHO,, we will see reloading supplies in a LARGE abundance,,
LONG before you will see $9 a box 9MM ammo,,

Since 9MM might be off the table, toss in a nice 44 MAG revolver,,
you will be money ahead at what,, 20 boxes of bullets?? :D

20 boxes of bullets ain't much,, considering how miserable it will be not having any bullets, until July,,,
Surely, you want to shoot 20 boxes between now and July,,, :) Right?

Since June I have found and purchased 9MM from these online retailers......

Sig Sauer (Sig website) 115gr FMJ box of 50 for $16.95
Sig Sauer (Sig website) 124gr FMJ box of 50 for $18.95
free shipping from Sig with $100 purchase
Palmetto State Armory Federal American Eagle 115gr FMJ box of 50 for $23.99

I like using Ammoseek.com because you can set up to receive text and email alerts after inputting your ammo preferences. But as mentioned above you have to act FAST to get your order in.

What I don't understand is there seems to be ammo out there but a lot of places only sell in bulk lots of 500 or 1000 rounds and still upwards of 60 cents a round for brass cased stuff.

Maybe in June, that was a lifetime ago,, in ammo time,,

I looked at SIG just now,, no pistol ammo under $1 a round ,,

NONE that I could find.

Two boxes of ammo, for $100,,,

I actually found and ordered the 115gr at Sig just 3 weeks ago and received it 5 days after ordering.
I ordered from Palmetto State Armory 2 days ago and it being delivered tomorrow.
Guess I was lucky in being online at the right time.

The only ammo easy to find on Ammoseek is steel cased stuff and it's still over 50 cents a round

Have you tried bulk ammo or DEGuns?
I just purchased some 9mm from both. I believe they still have some!

DeGuns has 9mm. I just checked.

You may try armslist or another local classified ad sales site.
I have seen 9mm for 20-25 a box. It's high, but it's out there.

If you were an online retailer and had a waiting list of people willing to pay $600 for a case of 9mm would you sell it for less or take the time to break it up to sell it by the box? I wouldn't.

Not sure why people are buying ammo in that quantity and those prices though. I can understand a new gun owner buying a few boxes at high prices to tide them over until prices get closer to normal. But the people stocking up at those prices are probably the same ones that buy into the stock market when they see it hitting record highs and then panic sell when it crashes. I am not a big fan of patience in general but sometimes it really pays off.

Get use to the new normal.....just like our parents did when gas went to over a buck a gallon. I remember as a teenager when we had gas rationing in the mid 70s taking our cars to the gas station and waiting in line to buy .36 cent guess.....never went back to those days in my parents life time.....better in my lifetime but I don't see ammo getting cheaper while I am alive....maybe for my kids but now for us that are mid 60s and up.....

Hope i found a treasure chest of ammo

A friend of mine has an abundance of ammo, his daughter is an Alaska state police sergeant and left a large trove of ammo at home, it includes 1500 .9mm rounds and many other calibers.
Still waiting for him to contact her to find a price, im hoping.
At my gun club the RSO's cant conduct the training programs because they don't have any ammo.

Shopping for ammo, pistols, and AR or AK rifles right now is like doing your Christmas gift shopping on Christmas eve. You take whatever is left on the self.

I broke a self imposed rule yesterday. I went into a Dicks store and made a purchase of 6 different calibers and gauges for a addition to our supply.

A friend called me and said that sort of local Dicks just got in a shipment of hard to get ammo and perhaps I should check it out. There were amount restriction on some items and the prices were not too bad.

I picked up a bunch (no restriction) of .308 for my M1A some 20 gauge buck and slugs. My wife has a 20G 870 and I have a 20G skeet gun, its nice to have serious ammo for anything we own.

This was more for the wife not me as I have a few 12Gs with plenty of good ammo available. Also grabbed a couple cases of 12 & 20G skeet loads

Pick up two soft brick type cases of .22LR and 2 50 boxes of both .380 and 9MM. They were limited.

Being as I have confessed I went to Dicks, after I went home I took a good long hot shower and plenty of mouth wash.

I got a text last night from Target Sports that they had Federal white box 9mm range ammo in stock at $299 for 500 rounds. It's still there now if you want it.

It's the same stuff you could get at the beginning of the year for $10/box of 50. It's really unfortunate. The pendulum will swing again though.

Oh goody, another ammo price thread

The "I gots mine!" contingent should be along shortly, lol

Here's my gloomy scoop, it will take a year for manufacturers to get their supply column back to somewhat normal levels of civilian production, another year for prices to slowly come down.

So expect high prices for "popular" ammo til 2022, and that's ONLY if the election turns out the right way.

I just got 250 rds of good Browning 12g dove loads for $50/ $5 a box, so there's that

Since I/we(I load, brother supplies components) got into reloading the only brass we have ever purchased was 300 blackout for our tight chambered Smith AR's. Everything else is range pickups.

So cost of ammo for us is bullets (don't cast), primers and powder.
9MM with coated bayou bullets is $5.5 a box.
44 mag with JHP is $9.80 a box
500 S&W, when I reloaded that caliber, with 400 gr SP was $12.5 per 50.

Save minimum of 1/3 price of loaded ammo at todays prices.

Not an "I got mine comment" just observations on savings.

Will say again that the range is lot less crowded on my weekly visits.
