Hey guys, I'm wondering what self defense round you use in your .40cal Sigma. From the little bit of research I've done, folks seem to think that the Cor-Bon 135gr. JHP is the best SD round available in .40cal. However, I know that different guns shoot some rounds better than others so I'm hoping for some advice on what the Sigma likes best. I wish I could just buy a box of all the most popular SD rounds and shoot and shoot and shoot, but as a broke college kid that isn't really an option. Thanks in advance!!

I prefer to shoot 180gr FMJ. Here in the cold weather state with all the winter clothes worn most of time. I want all the penetration I can get. Since shot placement is more important than anything else. I want the biggest bullet. That's my opinion.

thats exactly what i'm askin OK, my statement was based on what i've read on .40cal pistols in general. I wanted to hear what yall say is best for a sigma.

Speer Gold Dot, Rem Golden Saber, Federal Defense, Win defense, any quality commercial HP you can find in stock these days. I'm not a fan of "trick" bullets at outrageous prices.
I'm kind of stuck on Gold Dots as first choice, but they all work if you can shoot accurately (whatever distance you can put everything on a paper plate).
Get lots of range loads in the same bullet weight as your carry choice and try to wear out the gun.

Ya know, this kind of discussion goes on all the time. Are some rounds better than others - of course. But what's in you gun and on target counts a whole lot more than 'reviews'
Know anyone who would stand in front of a 'non' recommended round - don't think so.
Put 'what you shoot well' in your gun. You can trade up later.

My personal choice is the Winchester Supreme Elite Bonded PDX1 in 180 gr. Accuracy is good and it has some good results when shot at an untrimmed ham. At 7 yards, it will make quite a mess of a perfectly good piece of meat.
Disclaimer: I would appreciate if no one told my wife we did this.
She is a shooter, but I'll catch he!! for bustin up a perfectly good ham.

I have Remington UMC JHP in my Sigma. I bought some magtech 155gr Guardian Golds to try, and the SW40VE let me know very quickly it did NOT like them, jamming every other round into the feed ramp. Tried multiple mags, not the problem. They seem to measure closer to the long end of OAL, where the Remingtons are closer to the middle.
A lot of it will be to find a JHP that your particular firearm feeds and fires reliably.

Miracles of miracles, my local Wallyworld had a box of Remington 100 count UMC 115 JHP for only $25. They also had a sale on cantelopes, so I'm gonna head out to the farm today and make some fruit salad.
The only other JHP I've used (and keep loaded) are Golden Sabers, so I'm going to try a side by side test.
I'm no Scrooge McDuck, so the thought of 100 JHPs for only $25 really made my day - I won't cheap out for protection, but those Sabers don't exactly grow on trees.
BTW: my #1 go to is my Remington 870 (dad won't let me near his Ithaca 51) - so this is kind of an apples/oranges discussion.

My experience has been mostly the Rem UMC 180 jhp. This has been very good for a few hundred that I've used, and also success with a few hundred of the win white box ball 180's- these worked very well as do the Win Ranger 180 jhp subsonics-these are exceptional in accuracy in mine.
Really only one other load I tried was Federal 155 jhp's, and my pistol did not function well with them. I too tried both magazines with several attempts and it would fail to chamber fully every other round or so. I gave the remaining 155's to a pal who's Glock liked them and I hold steady now with the 180's. I have plugged a rock chuck with one of the UMC 180 jhp's and it hollowed him like a canoe. This is the round that I keep in the mag around my home.

I DO use the 135 Cor Bon in my H&K USP Compact. It shoots right to point of aim and is totally reliable -- in my gun. To me, it's got velocity about like the 125 grain .357 out of a shorter barrel (which I always hear is about as good a load as one can carry) except it's 10 grains heavier and it's about 12% larger in diameter.
