158 grain lead wadcutters shoot about 6 inches high at 15 yards. Would a lighter grain such as 125 or 110 grain factory loads shoot more to point of aim?

They probably will, but from my experience it is unusual that the 158 is not at POA, since the J frames with fixed sights are built intentionally for that. Is it high if someone else shoots it also?

Most pistols with fixed sights are regulated to print center target at 25 yds. The 637 is a light weight revolver and subject to a bit more muzzle flip that may be throwing the rounds a bit high. Make sure you are not breaking your wrist up with the recoil, a firmer grip may help with this as your provide more resistance to the muzzle rise along with follow through to bring your sights back on target after each shot. I doubt if you will see 6" difference with lighter bullets at 15 yds, maybe 1 or 2 inches at 25 yds and that will be from less recoil and dwell time in the barrel.

On my fixed sighted guns I know shoot a few inches high I simply aim a bit lower.

Randy, WELCOME!
You've been given sound advice already. Your shooting the load that the guns sights are regulated for. Yes, a lighter/faster bullet typically prints lower, but not by THAT much usually? Try another (known good quality) shooter at the same distance, with the same ammo and on a bullseye target off of the bench with a sandbag. Snubs are very difficult guns to master due to the short sight radius. Once mastered though, your shooting improves on nearly every other handgun too!

I've fired around a thousand 158gr SWC from my 637. It clearly was built to hit POA at twenty-five yards. However, I practice mostly at ten yards, as the 637 is a SD/HD weapon. At ten yards, I put the 10 ring on top of the front sight, and expect my hits to be mostly within that 10 ring.

You may have a gripping problem, or your 637 may have a bad set of sights. Have an experienced shooter fire it. If it shoots high for him too, then maybe you should have S&W check it out. Theirs is the industry leader for customer service. They will pay the shipping both ways, fix the problem, and get it back to you within weeks, all without cost to you.

Cordially, Jack

My 637 shoots high with everything. But, most +P 125 grain loads are only 2" high @ 15 yards. At 10 yards, I can keep everything in the "pie plate" on an IDPA target in rapid fire. So, I feel comfortable using it for self defense.
