I finally had an amo problem while shooting my M&P 22. I bought two boxes of 325 rounds each of Federal 40 gr. round nose muzzle vel. listed at 1200 fps. I have 6, 12 round mags that I load at once. Right out of the gates, I had a FTF(fail to fire). It was the first mag about the 8th or 9th round. I cleared it reloaded it into the mag. and it fired the second time. Two mags later I had a FTE (fail to eject) again toward the end of the mag. I also experienced a FTF (fail to feed). That's the way it went the entire time I was at the range. The entire box of this Federal ammo was a problem. My Son was next to me and he was shooting some Winchesters and I had some other Federals in my bag, so after going through the entire box I loaded the several other Federals I had and they shot fine. I loaded 2 mags with his Winchesters and they shot fine. This ammo I bought at Wal-Mart. I don't remember the price I paid but it is awful. White Box with Black trim and white lettering in the black trim. It said "Target Grade Performance" on the side of the box. I can't wait to shoot the second box!!!:rolleyes:

Sounds like automatch. Mine didn't like it either. It worked fine in my other 22's though. I find my m&p 22 likes ammo with a higher velocity.

Put some CCI stingers through it and it'll work great. Every time I find a .22 that has problems, i put those CCI through it and it never gives a problem.

I have an old Jennings throw away pistol that has that same problem. Got some CCI and now it works fine.

I did a lot of shooting in the 70's and early 80's, including 2 .22 handguns, and 3 rifles ( 2 bolt, 1 auto loader). I do not remember ever having an FTF in that time frame.

FF 20+ years, I get back into shooting, and it seems like I have at least 1 FTF from each bulk box. I have had as many as 5 (525 box).

Since these are all bulk, costing me approximately $.03 a round, I would have to assume mass production QA issues.

In all cases, when the FTF amo was re-tried, it fired. Indicating the rim was not totally filled with primer.

Personally I just live with it. Knowing that my 22A functions flawlessly after 2000+ rounds, if I have an FTF it is the ammo, not the firearm.

There's another potential source of trouble. My enthusiasm for the 22A was dampened when I bought two 50 rnd boxes of Cheap CCI's (not the Mini Mags). I had previously experienced no FTF's with Mini Mags. But with these cheap ones I had an FTF every 10-20 shots. Many fired the second time. I gave the second box to a friend with a small Baretta and he had the same problem. Now he fires only Mini Mags too. They're still a lot cheaper than 9 mm.

My Ruger SR22 doesn't like those "target" federal bulk packaged by 300+ rounds, however same gun eats 525 rounds bulk Federal w/o any hiccup - go figure...

I'll second the CCI Mini Mag vote for most semiautos. By contrast my Model 18 & Ruger Single Six shoot anything I put in them.
