There was a boatload of great Smiths to see and/or buy
I bid on one and missed by 1k
A 1st/1st hammered at 12k... so about 15k + otd
I enjoyed it immensely

The 1st, 1st, 1st model was a steal. In my estimation it should have gone for twice that price at a minimum.

I stayed away for two reasons. The first is that I already have one (the Law of Diminishing Returns applies here). Secondly, I needed to view it in person to satisfy my always present, suspicions nature. Is it all original?

I think Derose's collection took a bath! I got four in the auction that I would have paid more. Another reason you buy at Amoskeag and sell with Rock Island. As a side not, how many time did Jason cough?

I won one lot I really wanted, a few others I was outbid on. I think some stuff went a bit high, but most was fairly priced when you factor in the following: Buyer’s premium and shipping; and current politics. Believe me, I’m not at all complaining about the executive branch of the government right now, but, IMHO, every firearm out there tanked about 20% on November 5th, the exception being the really, really high end stuff which is immune from this due to the deep pockets involved. In hindsight, not knowing much about these, I really liked lot 80, the Percival & Smith repeating magazine pistol, but, while hammering very fairly, that’s still a lot of money for most folks.

There’s a thread I created over on the Winchester forum right now about how I feel that middle of the road (very nice stuff, but not the very best stuff) has slumped lately. It was inspired by this Winchester 1894 carbine in .32-40, one of the nicer ones out there for a very uncommon configuration, not refinished, and an added bonus is the tang sight. It was offered for sale on the forum for $6500, before being offered on Gunbroker, the land of little sense and deep pockets (almost as bad as RIA). Started at a penny, hammered at $2653. Easily worth 1 1/2 times that, if not twice that, until recently. Some photographs attached.

Auction

I agree that this was one of the finest collections of antique Smith & Wesson revolvers I’ve seen all in one auction.
I was outbid on several but did manage to win 3. Here are two of them.
The Baltimore police Baby Russian with Badge and hat number. I couldn’t believe I got it.
A low number 32cf in factory wood box. Engraved no less. Amazing.

I got blown away on a few rare birds that went for two to three times the estimate. The 10” barrel 32cf was amazing. The 41 Rimfire ultra rare spur trigger ( close to $20,000)and the boxed mottled grip blued 32cf went for over $2000!

So the market for antiques is definitely healthy I’d say.

I bid on both of the mottled grip revolvers in the auction on Sunday and was blown away both times!

I bought one. Broke my personal record for the most spent on a single gun by a factor of more than two. But it was a one of a kind target gun, one of many in this auction. And I keep telling myself it is time to dispose of my collection.
Bob

Show it to us please.............

No. It would have cost me almost 4k

Anyone know what the factory engraved S&W Model 41 went for? Looked like it was in very high condition.
