Took a walk with my buddy again this afternoon down the
river. I had my model 36 and he carried his Nikon. Lord knows
i need the excersize and am always ready when he says lets
take a walk. There is a very large Bald Eagles nest that he
found about 2 years ago while walking this stretch of river
and we have been keeping an eye on it to see if the mating
pair will come back and use it again this spring.
Good news they are back and watching their nest closely.
There's a big old dead tree very close to the nesting site that
they light on to be close to the nest and affords my buddy a clear view through the vegetation to take his photos.
Heres a picture from todays walk that he took i thought
i'd share. We have only seen Bald Eagles here in this area
of Indiana for last couple of years and are very excited they
have called this place home.

The Courier Journal newspaper (Louisvile Ky) ran a editorial today about the resurgence of the eagle population.

I'm in the southern part of Indiana and I saw eagles here this winter...

I took this picture of a coupla' crows trying to run this one off without much success. :D

It was the first time I'd seen them in this part of the state. And to have them so close to home is a treat.

Very cool to see the national symbol of independence right here in the heartland. :)

You KNOW I'm going to "like" this post... can I like it twice??? :p

My compliments to the photographer.

What a majestic bird! Thanks for sharing that picture!

We have some of them up north a bit. They really are magnificent. But it is hard to appreciate a critter like that until you see one up close - and you actually think about the "whole package." Really quite a creation. Almost an honor just to contemplate one, whether Elmer Keith would think so or not. :D

They are making a comeback. Over the past few years we've had juveniles on our local refuge and last year a pair successfully nested and raised one chick. First time in over 40 years that I've seen this. It will be interesting to watch the other wildlife adapt to them. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Quite a few here in eastern Virginia now. I remember growing up here in the 1950's and 60's the only eagle you saw was in a picture. It is great to see them come back, awesome birds!.
