A plate block that was to be used for printing an advertisement (but never was). On the back is stamped 38/44 Heavy Duty and 1950 44 Military. Also written on the back is OBSOLETE and the name C. L. Smith. On the top edge is written M 20-21.

On the front is stamped 44 5 and a mark of the firm making the plate block.

Bill, These are intersting items, as there are dozens of them representing various maodels of S&Ws, all pre-Model eras. Some of them go back to the first catalogs, circa 1880s. When the S&WCA had their first annual meeting in Springfield, Mass, in 1977, there were bins of these in the factory and we were invited to help ourselves to what ever we wanted, so many members came away with their pockets stuffed full. At later annual meetings, Roy would sometimes bring a pile of these to hand out. Smith & Wesson collectables can sometimes carried to the maximum! The late Hank Curtis, who accompanied me to that 1977 meeting, found a couple of packets of suger in his luggage when he returned home. He had picked them up in the executive's coffee shop when we toured the factory. There were two different styles. He framed them in a display frame, and labled them "Original Factory Issue, Early and late Models. " They now hang in my gun room. Definately a display of One of a Kind S&W memorabelia! Ed.

That is awesome! What a great keepsake/collectible item. Definitely a neat and unique piece.
