You know those Jay Scott immitation stag or pearl grips you have at the bottom of your box-o-grips that I know you all have? The ones you took off a gun you bought as soon as you could grab a screwdriver? Well, they actually made grips I really like. Where their usual ones have that thick rosewood lamination, they also made some of pure rosewood. These were $41 total on Ebay and I like them enough to put them on this 50s Colt .45 I've had for over thirty years. This gun has been a reliable campin', hikin', and cowboy shootin' iron, but the grips have changed occasionally. Maybe these are for keeps.

Do I remember them. My first real handgun , a Ruger Blackhawk , bought in 1971, got the Jay Scott imitation pearl treatment....you know it had a thick black base.....I can't believe I did that.....what was I thinking. Still have them too ...not on the Ruger, in a box of uglies !

I do like those rosewoods. Jay Scott grips ran the gamut. Here are a pair of pure zebrawood panels that I bought off an old guy who was retiring and closing his mom and pop little hole in the wall gun shop about. He had several assorted pair of Jay Scotts but this was the only set he had for a J frame.

I will admit the Jay Scott zebrawood grips were nice. I had them on a model 64 38 special and a model 58 41 magnum , until three years ago . I spotted some Ahrends on this site , his prices were in my budget , so I ordered matching Retro Combats in dark red and black cocobolo for the pair.
I will admit the Ahrends are nicer....but the zebrawood Jay Scotts served well on those two classic revolvers for decades. I had forgotten the zebrawood grips were Jay Scott...still nice and
I still have them...just in case.

My dad had a pair of imitation stag grips on his First Model Woodsman. When I inherited it, I found the appropriate albeit reproduction checkered wooden grips. But when I put them on, it wasn't my dad's Colt anymore so I put the fakes back on. It has since passed on to his grandson.

I have a pair of oversized target stocks for my Ruger Blackhawk that look very much like those in your picture. I didn't know what they were, guess they are Jay Scotts. I don't use them, factory issue is OK.

My first gun still has the Jay Scott "pearl" grips my dad got for me when I was a kid. And the flea market Hunter rig was rebuilt by him with a new metal lined and laced pouch.

Bought a box-o-stuff at a gun auction a few years ago for a couple of bucks and found a set of NIB Jay Scott k frame in black pearl. Sorta looks good on my nickeled 19-3 but I'm afraid to put em on. I did learn from grade school not to be different! Just kidding of course, they aren't as bad as we remember. Holy cow, remember the Mustang brand, what were we thinking!
