Angled IWB 4 o'clock Shield Holster.

I am looking for a holster for my new S&W M&P40 for my new carry pistol.

I am planning on carrying it in the 4 o'clock position, or right behind my right hip. Looking at holsters, it would make sense to get a lefthanded holster to use for this position.

The question comes up that I would really prefer to have the 15° angled holster for easier access. So I want a holster that if you are looking at my back, the pistol's magazine well is facing my right side and angled towards my right cheek.

Does anyone else carry like this? Or where would I start looking for a good holster?

Why would you want a lefty holster if you're right handed? That seems like it would be quite difficult to draw from to me.

I think I understand why, but the reality of it is just more difficult than it seems. It's really quite easy to draw from the normal right hand holster with the 15° cant.

Galco makes one called the MOB that has the "Calvary Style draw.

Unfortunately they do not make it for the Shield. I don't think a regular left hand would work because the cant would be in the wrong direction.

I don't know of anyone making a holster like this for the Shield. When everything else fails look at Remora. Their original design is AMBIDEXTROUS and would most likely work for you.

It's easy to dismiss the possibility of a premature discharge and the odds may support your argument, but I'm betting you can find another way to carry successfully. In fact, I hope you do.

This is all good information, thanks. I really never thought of this issue, but looking at it, it completely makes sense. I may have to rethink my strategy. I still want to carry a little further back than 3 o'clock probably, I will just have to play with it.

I carry my shield at about the 4 with a Foxx Trapp extended slide guard, canted as far forward as the rig allows. Nary a problem.

I am going to look into another option, I carry my fs in my 3 o'clock, but I want something a little less exposed. I am going to buy a IWB and just see how things go. I will experiment with it and we will see what happens.

Glad to see that you are re-thinking this. If you Google Calvary Draw you will see that a lot of people think it is dangerous, including me. I was only trying to answer your question but I do not endorse this method of carry.

I have a Shield that I carry at about 3:30 in an OWB and it is very comfortable. I can cover it just by leaving my shirt out. This position is even comfortable while driving.

This is what we all have to do to find that one position that is best for each of us.

You'll find that most people like the 4 o'clock position with a 15° cant. It does conceal well. The cant allows the draw to be a little easier.

This is an incredibly comfortable holster I wear every day. Amazingly well made for the price, using butter soft leather against the skin and lined inside to protect my hield. You can wear this one either left or right sided or even on the right side turned left handed like you stated. Which does seem dangerous. Check out how high the clip rides on it. Just a bit of the grip rides above my pants but I cab draw very easily with it. It is also what they call a tuckable IWB, although that means you have to pull out a shirt to draw. I just wear my shirt out. A regular t-shirt easily hides your Shield with this holster. I have a few over $50 holsters but actually like this one best of all. Funny, both my Dad and my son now own a couple themselves after realizing I was carrying and they could not tell. (And yes, we all have CC licenses)

The one issue I'd have with a holster like the Ace Case is that it doesn't stay open and would require two hands to reholster. For me, a requirement is that I be able to reholster with only one hand.

I ordered an Alien Gear holster last night with all of the fixins... we will see how I like it and go from there.

The Ace Case looks very simple as well, definitely something to look into.

+1 for the Foxx Trapp. I carry with the cant as far as it'll go at the 4 position. I absolutely love that holster. It all depends on you, your natural draw, and body shape, but scooting it back towards 4 O'c made everything fit into place for me. Sometimes I have to wear closer to 3, because on a couple pair of pants the belt loop is in a different position, but if I place the clip behind that loop, it sags my pants. Still haven't quite figured out why, but 330 is still comfy for me.

I carry at the 3:30 - 4 oclock position with my Shield 9mm. I use either my White Hat hybrid or I recently ordered and have been wearing my RKBA custom leather tuckable dual clip IWB that I received last week. I love that thing! Very inexpensive, well made and very comfortable....plus tuckable. It's a terrific holster that can be customized (got a 15 degree cant on mine) and the leather is thick enough for one hand re-holster. I recommend it highly and turnaround time was only a few weeks.
