Another 10-5 2"

Hey guys & gals. I was at a yard sale over the weekend and found this one laying on a table. Always wanting a snubby and having the money burning a hole in my pocket...well it came home with me.
The grips could use a little TLC but overall the finish is in rather good shape with a little wear around the muzzle and a faint cylinder line.
What a great shooter, I couldn't wait and took it out, right after getting home and put 30 rounds through it.
Question? Year of manufacture? M10-5 2" SN# C9399xx

I'd expect it was shipped from the factory in 1968. It looks pretty good. Snubbies are always in demand.

Great find! Gun looks good too! I can not remember seeing a S&W at a yard/garage sale. I have wanted a K snubbie for a while. The right one has not materialized. Bought 2 36's this year though! Enjoy your 10! Bob

Very nice, looks like it has a very low round count. I much prefer the
looks of the RB vs SB in the two inch K frame. Like the others I wish
I could find a yard sale like that.

Neither here in California. There are many good things about living here but our totally insane guns are not one of them. In order to get my pre model 10 I had to get my 03FFL find one out of state have it shipped to here under the C&R exemption to a FFL PAY REGISTRATION FEES WAIT THE FULL 10 Day waiting period. But it was definitely worth it. Love the 2" K frames.

Agree on both counts. However, my LGS occasionally does just about as well. Some years back, I was loitering smartly in the Cape gun shop which Northeastshooters.com members love to malign, when a lady came in with her deceased husband's cosmetically challenged M15 2" with a Barami Hip Grip (right side only) with a bit of ammo, all in a small ammo box which had been modified to lock securely. While the loiterers sat silently, the owner of the store offered $100, which was probably a fair price at the time. She sold. When she left, I asked what the gun would go for. $175 was the price. I was a little slow, so I bought the ammo box and ammo for $20. Later in the day, I recognized my foolishness and was permitted to buy the gun for an additional $155.

That gun is still my primary EDC. The Barami worked quite well, but I seem to recall that the sights were a minor issue. Nowadays I use a Don Hume JIT Slide and Rogers/Safariland grips, and the sights, strangely enough, are not an issue with any of the covering garments that I wear.

I have found similar bargains at that store.

Garage sales here in Alaska often have rifles and shotguns, but rarely handguns.
But I remember the good old days when you could find good bargains on guns of all sorts listed in the classified section of the local newspaper. I bought lots of them that way some decades ago. Sold a couple that way too. Not anymore!

Being a big fan of both the M10 and M15 4" I recently started shopping on the usual sites for a decent 2" and to my surprise it is not unusual to see them in the $550-$650 price range. The last one I followed was a nice M10 and the buyer hit the BUY IT NOW when the high bid was at $425 and payed $650. That seemed a bit high to me but I guess it depends how driven you are and how deep your pockets are also. By the time you bring it home you will have well over $700 bucks into it.

I thought I had paid a premium for the 10-5. The owner was asking $500, I countered with 450 and after dickering back and fourth we settled on $475.
I guess a firearm is worth what one is willing to pay for it. I learned a while back if you want something don't dilly dally to long or it will be gone.
Can someone recommend a good medium priced holster for a M10-5 2" ?
Went to two different gun stores today and nothing in stock for a revolver with a 2" barrel, looking for a nice OWB in leather.

Found a nice Davis Leather Company

Model 455, K Frame 2 1/2" Security. Not sure of the age, but was used of course. Still in very good shape, reinforced top. The 10-5 2" seems to fit nicely and is comfortable to wear. I believe this holster was probably made after Davis' move to Phoenix AZ. but before Mr. Cox bought out the company...your thoughts on that??
Added; In my searching on this holster, this is the only 455 Security I've found made for a revolver, all the others were for semi-autos, the current Davis Leather Company web page does not list a 455 for a revolver.

Never seen a nicer "knock off" of an early Milt Sparks Summer Special......if you hadn't shown us the back I would have Id'ed as a Sparks.

Got a nice 10-5 2" a few years back..... gave it to the wife to compliment her 4" Model 15.

A nice but inexpensive OWB holster for a 2" k frame is the Hume style Jit slide.... rides high and covers the whole barrel........ nice cross-draw for driving.
