I seem to just run into the weird ones. Added ugly front sight, wrong grips, poor finish, rear sight was adj., but all wrong. Removed it. 6 1/2" barrel. Good action, shoots OK for a 110 year old revolver.

Was the adjustable rear sight a "Wonder Sight," attached to the frame via the top side plate screw ? Ed.

Looks like its an early 1902 - barrel appears to be straight tapered, with no shoulder.
I assume the forged front sight base was ground off, to accomodate its current
front sight. Otherwise, its not in bad shape. A lot of the blue has turned brown, or
worn off, but I don't see much damage to the surface of the metal. Side plate seems
to have a nice fit, and the pins on the left side of the frame are nicely rounded over.

Scarce gun.

I love 1902 32-20s. What's the deal with your serial number? Looks like either someone stamped out one of the serial numbers, or just added some punch marks on both ends of the serial number. What is the serial number on the back of the cylinder. Someone can help you determine the age and model number with the numbers stamped on the cylinder or the bottom of the barrel under the ejector rod. Your grips are a later addition, since most had black hard rubber grips.

I bought a really rough specimen awhile ago and got up the courage to refinish it, since it was a shooter only. I really like shooting the 32-20 cartridge. Before and after pics.

Glowe: Nice refinishing job. What kind of blue did you use?

S/N on butt, barrel & cylinder is 6953.
The marks look like there from screws pressed onto the butt.
Maybe some kind of target stocks? Who knows.....

Interesting that Roy Jinks S&W book shows a Model 1902 32-20 round butt HE with serial number 6929 - very close. Since the 2nd Model was manufactured only in 1902 and 1903, your guess as to which birth year you want to use. They made only 4500 of this model.
