Okay, as most "Dear Hustler" stories start... j/k. Alright, I walked into a local shop the other day and saw a stainless s&w semi auto just placed in randomly in a case kinda of away from the herd, as if it were being isolated or shunned due to some illness the other semi autos could sense... Turns out it was a 3906 in pretty darn good condition. I looked at the gun, and told myself that if it was there in the morning, when I could stop back with a trade, I would adopt the poor thing. I ended up trading an FEG p9m and 100 bucks for the 3906. Making my total investment in the gun around $300. (I only had 179 in the FEG). What do you guys think. I ran out and shot it today. Amazing shooter. Night sights still glow.
What parts interchange? I know 3904 will, but what about the 915 barrel or 910 parts???

It is a Dear Hustler story, only your the hustler. Same pistol on GB would have brought around 500. All the small parts are interchangeable , I believe that the 9xx slides are different. Early pistols have a narrow hood on the barrel the newer ones have a wider hood. A 59xx slide will fit on your pistol plus the small parts save or the trigger draw bar. You got a great price now we'll see if you become a crazy 3rd gen Fan .

Nice! Glad to here that... I can not believe that I didn't try a smith 3rd gen semi auto earlier. I had a 59 years ago, but traded it during my polymer phase. I really love this gun. I am not sure if they are known for their accuracy, but for me, it was point and shoot, not effort or attempting to figure out what " hold" I needed to use. I was shooting my reloads that were a tad under powered too, no FTE, FTF.

Congrats! GREAT price on a superb and VERY underated pistol. Made in very small quantities for too short a timespan.

IIRC early production (flash chromed hammer trigger/hooked trigger guard) 5906 top end and parts will work with the 3906.

Enjoy that fine and truly rare 3906! :) Regards 18DAI

Thanks for the info and the reply!.
I looked at a model 59 at buds while I was there this weekend. I owned one years ago, but was not of an experienced of a shooter. I think they were 249 with ALOT of holster wear, but I thought of picking one up...
