Hello all,

a 28 year old story ended yesterday. When I was a young student and avid competetive shooter, I was keen to buy the then new on the market M625 in .45 ACP. As I'm living in Germany, I had to apply for a license, which I was granted thanks to my extensive shooting activities and achievements in matches. But due to study and career progress I never bought the desired gun and the license became invalid. Believe me, a few years later I did regret it...

Last year in september I decided that I must have the M625 now, to no longer have those regrets. I applied again for a license and got it a few days ago after a 4 months wait (as a competetive shooter, I have to make the long way through the shooting federations bureaucracy). I was lucky enough to find a M625-4 at a dealer not too far away in very good condition, a few minor scratches on the finish, but not shot much. Action is slick, SA trigger pull very good and crisp.

looking forward to the range session tomorrow. First shots yesterday were encouraging, seems it likes .452 200grs H&G #68 more than the .451...

Congrats!! Nice looking 625 you got. I'm new to them, just got my first real wheel gun at Christmas...a 625-6 with 5" barrel (frame firing pin, mim hammer/trigger, but NO internal lock). Was looking for a -3 or -4 like yours but got this one in like new condition for nearly half the normal going price, so had to grab it. No regrets, great action, great shooter! Enjoy it, I am!

Congrats!Like the one I had and stupidly sold!Hope you have fun with it.
Mine prefered .452 with the G&G 68.That thing was so accurate...guess I'm better stop talking about it.Nobody likes to see or hear a man crying!

Ulrich, after a 28 year journey, congratulations on becoming the proud owner of a S&W 625. You have a very fine revolver. I too am a fan of the 625. Mine is a S&W 625-9 in 45 Colt. Since I reload 45 Colt for Cowboy Action Shooting, I have no problem having ammo available for my "Mountain Gun." My 625 is a joy to shoot and I'm sure you'll find your 625 a joy also.

Ulrich, I spent eight (8) years, off and on, in W. Germany courtesy of the US Army. Last time I was in Germany was in 1989. Germany is a beautiful country and has lovely people. Miss the good beer!

Thanks for looking at my 625-9 Mountain Gun.

God Bless,
Birdgun

Hey! We have good beer here too (so what if we stole all the good recipes from the Germans):D

Wern't stolen, the millions of Germans from Bayern, Pfalz, Baden, Hesse and the like brought them to the middle of this new continent. Settling places like Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. Look at the names of the breweries in the midwest before 1919. Lotsa german surnames, one of them was my lovley wife's maiden name. (No, I did not marry her because she owned a brewery, it had closed 60 years before we met.)

Nice gun! I like shooting 200gr. plated bullets in my 625JM. Hand-loading gives plenty of options. Bob

Ulrich;
That is a beautiful revolver! I had a 625-6 (5" barrel), until recently, and it was one of my all time favorite revolvers. I gifted my youngest son with it this past Christmas along with a suitable supply of ammo with my cast bullets. He is an excellent shot and will truly appreciate it.

Of course, I still have my 625-8 Jerry Miculek Special (4" barrel). I have shot my 625's THOUSANDS of times, but NOTHING but my home cast bullets. I mostly shoot target loads (4.0 grs. Of Bullseye or equivalent behind an H&G #68 200gr. SWC).

Ulrich, my oldest son was stationed in Bavaria for five years. My wife and I made three trips there in three years (total of nine weeks) and we traveled widely. We met a lot of fine German folks and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Good shooting!

thanks everyone, and great to see some forum members who know Germany. Slightly OT: When I was a boy, we had a small military training area only a short walk away, and once a year a US signal unit from Kaiserslautern had a bivouac there for one week. The guys frequently ran dry and were quite happy to be sold some beer and wine by me and my schoolfriends ;-) When they left, they gave us some combat rations, first time I could taste peanut butter. Childhood memories...

The M625 performs great. I did two more range sessions late last week. During one I did my preferred target discipline: 30 rounds, which comprise 12 round in 2 minutes at 25 meters, 12 rounds 2 seconds each at 15 meters, 6 rounds = 3 double taps 2 seconds each at 10 meters. Reached 292 points out of 300.

At 10 meter it shoots nearly boring accurate. 12 rounds 4.2 grs of Lovex D032 behind a 200grs .452 H&G #68

I found the most accurate rounds out of my 625-8 "JM" version were 255 grain hard cast bullets. That revolver is so user friendly it's almost hard to make bad shots. Nice revolver OP...
