Another Apex Parts Review

Installed a hard sear in my M&P 40C. The difference was immediately noticeable. Brought the trigger pull down to about 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 pounds. The reset was also much better.

Range results were good but there was still a lot of creep or grittiness is the trigger. Apex was out of the striker block so I has to wait a couple weeks. When they came available I ordered one immediately.

Installed the striker block and the results were simply amazing.

These parts did not make the gun more accurate. Quite simply most quality guns are capable of impressive accuracy out of the box. It's up to the shooter to achieve desireable results.

These parts made it extremely easy to shoot the gun with amazing accuracy. It was like I didn't even have to try. I let several others shoot the gun with the same results. Many of these were people that own or sell M&P pistols. They were impressed also.

I consider a 3 1/2 pound trigger to be too light for a striker fired gun. But since mine has a manual safety, I don't worry about it.

These parts were very easy to install and I recommend them to all M&P owners.

I am currently looking to buy another M&P pistol just so I can install these parts.

3 1/2 # is pretty light. FWIW, you have the option of swapping in Apex's duty trigger return spring. Should add just about a pound to the pull and not effect it's new "crispness".

Measured the trigger pull yesterday. It's actually 3 pounds even. With a manual safety I don't worry about it. Not much different than some 1911's.

They do it's called the "PC action/trigger job" and costs about three times as much.

Trigger improvements

I've wondered if S&W will try to get in on the $$$ when the Apex and others that will appear to copy it get too common and Performance Center action jobs get too few. Maybe by producing some type of "new improved M&P Carry Pro," with improved trigger. Sort of like the Pro Series 4-inchers, except on any caliber or frame that they can put improved trigger/sear/plunger components in to make them more shootable. Maybe do something in the cosmetics to differentiate, like leave the barrel stainless or something. I figure Smith's engineers have a few of the Apex and SSS parts in the shop to play with.

Put the Apex Sear and USB on my MP9 this afternoon. Just got the MP back from S&W repair (gone for 2+weeks for a replacement of the extractor and barrel modification. Hope that cures the FTE. Back to the Apex additions. Not fired it yet but WOW. What a great difference. A little problem for me as my MP has the ambidextrous thumb safety and that adds a little more care in the re-assembly. Going to get a second M&P. I will order the Apex Sear and USB a couple of days prior to picking up the new MP and do the same prior to pulling the trigger for the first time. Thank You Apex.

I did the Burrwell trigger/sear job on my M&P 45 with pretty good results, but I finally was able to get the Apex hard sear and striker block and did the install. Cannot believe the difference, I totally endorse this product. You will not be disappointed in the results.

I also want to say Apex Tactical Specialties has great and personal customer service, really good people to deal with.

I got the apex sears for my 40 and 45, with striker blocks in the first batch they sold, so I have had them a while. They are a great product depending on what your intended use might be and what you are comfortable with. They have several pull weight versions available or Will be. The three pound pull seems more like the competition version, maybe not, but that is the specs Apex is shooting for on the comp version.

Trigger fixation?

Glad the trigger work works for you. I know it's just me, but I don't understand the fixation I hear with lightweight triggers. I suppose it can make a difference for competitive target shooting...but....personally I don't shoot any better (or worse) with guns having a light trigger vs a "heavy" trigger. I have 1911s with both 7lb and 3lb (done by prior owners) trigger pulls and I can drive nails all day long with any of them.

The ~6.5lb on my M&P40 seems a bit light to me to begin with for a non-external safety gun and it also can drive nails all day long if I do my part. Maybe because I got so used to DA revolvers and heavy (and some light) 1911 triggers that I'm not sensitive to trigger weight; I just adjust my feel for the gun. It's nice to know that the M&P works for those needing trigger jobs, but I guess I'm the weird one on the need for it especially if it's a service weapon.

Sold on the Apex kit...good info...the pull and bypass reset of the M&P trigger bar are very smooth after you clean things up, but the reset is imperceptible... Some engineer might be quite proud of that... I'd rather know when she's ready to fire again

Very simply due to cost. S&W could do this but the price point wouldn't be the same.
