Every 20 years, The Legislature and Governor appoint a commission to review the State Constituion. This group then proposes amendments, that go directly to the ballot in the next election. No review by elected officials.
This process is has been ongoing for several months. Attempts have been made to hijack this process to propose numerous onerous gun control measures. These have been thwarted, so far.
One remaining avenue is for the measures to get on the ballot through gathering of signatures.
We must continue to fight these attempts to put these types of measures in the State Constitution.

This Nov. Some of the proposals being talked about but not yet passed to Committee for consideration, are a total ban on AR style rifles and magazines. This would also include a forced surrender of all currently owned ARs with no compensation. Also a 7 round mag limit for all semi-autos, UBG checks and a 10 day waiting period for all firearm purchases. Beginning to sound like MA and NY.

I guess I'll have to stick to....

....Bushmasters, Mini-14s, Kel Tecs, not to mention the huge variety of imports that are not based on AR 15 technology.

I guess whatever becomes the weapon of choice for shooters after banning AR 15s will be banned next. Somebody who's determined to do harm can carry a boatload of 10 round magazines.

Didn't the Florida legislature just vote against a bunch of measures like these?

The House Criminal Justice sub committee. Did not make it to the full Committee. There were fifty (50) new House and Senate proposals in the various sub committees these last weeks of which 29 concerned firearms/ammo. Fifteen of these are considered anti-gun. Most were either voted down or withdrawn. Some are still working their way through the process. Of the ones voted down in the various sub committees, the vote was often along party lines with a margin of one vote. Every ten years or so, there are public hearings for amendments to the state constitution. This is one of those years with hearings in Tampa. A hard attempt by Dems was made to amend the states constitution introducing new firearms restrictions. It was voted down in the Procedural Committee as being out of order. The Dems are now pushing to get these restrictions up for public vote on the Nov ballet, if they get enough signatures.
This much activity is viewed with concern. It’s just a matter of where the trip wire is placed.
Someone with more up to date info may chine in here.

For the life of me, I cannot understand people willingly giving up Civil Rights.

I guess that's why the left is so adamant about education. If they "educate" the children like they want them, then they will grow up to be the adults/voters they want. Also why they no longer teach history. If you don't teach history you will not recognize when its repeating itself.

As for people willingly giving up Civil Rights, its kind of reminiscent of post-depression Germany. And we saw how well that turned out.

Well stated, sir, and I agree with your assessment.
