If you want to kill a large male black bear at 495ish yards with one shot you might check out the .338 Lapua. The bullet was the Berger 250 grain target at about 2850 fps muzzle velocity. One shot into the front of the chest and it went down. Taxidermist says it has the finest coat he has ever seen and was probably a true 400 pound bear.
