A .38 Outdoorsman dated by S/N to 1947-48...I just picked it up, so forgive me for not cleaning it up first...6.5" barrel, small amount of holster wear...A little brake cleaner will remove someone's red fingernail polish from the front sight...Cylinder, barrel and frame numbers match...No numbers on the target stocks but I hope someone can confirm they are period correct...The gap showing between the stocks is because I did not completely tighten the screw before the pics...No box with this one...:)...Ben

Well at least Cabela's got this one right. About 30 yrs ago I went in to a Cabelas in a midwestern city, saw a gun for sale labeled as a .38-44 Outdoorman, with an asking price of around $300. Took a good look, it was a 90+% gun, and discovered it was a Registered Magnum. Offered them around $250. They took it, I paid and walked out. Ed

Nice old Transition. Good for you.
All you guys need to remember that you won't be likely to find numbered Target grips. IF you ever do, come here and we'll explain why that is. :D
Depends on what you mean by period correct. They did not ship on it because Target grips for N frames don't appear till about Jan, 1955. Obviously, they make a nice addition to it and probably went onto it while it was still quite young.

Congrats on a nice find. Compared to what others are finding the Cabela's stores here fail in comparison.

Thanks for the clarification on the grips, Lee, I'm still learning about such things...They at least have black washers and diamond screw holes, and the wear on them seems commensurate with the finish wear...The action is very smooth and tight...When the cylinder closes it's a solid sound like a manhole cover dropping...I'm more than satisfied...

It will mate well with my 1932 K-22 Outdoorsman...Of course now I have to look for a .44 Outdoorsman...And if there is such a thing as a K-32 Outdoorsman - well, you get the idea...:p...Ben

Do you think somebody sold their collection to your local Cabela's, or did you have this one shipped to your store? If it is the first option, you might find many more gems!:D

I've never been inside a Cabela's in my life, don't even know where the nearest one is...I found it in an online search, called and bought it on the phone...They shipped it to my local FFL who did the transfer...I found it yesterday evening in Oregon, and picked it up late this morning at my LGS...Filled out the 4473, showed my CHL and away I went...:D...Ben

I decided to see what Smith & Wesson “bargains” I might find on line at Cabela’s this evening. All I could find was a .38 Safety Hammerless Fourth Model that was reblued for sale in the Lone Tree, Colorado store marked at $2099.99. At that price, I should be able to trade my Lemon Squeezer that is 100% for a new Jeep, I should think.

Remind me not to waste time on line searching for Cabela’s “bargains”.

I've got some killer deals at Cabela's in the last couple yrs. You just got to wade thru the over over priced stuff to get to them.

Went to Cabala's in West (By-God) Virginia once with a friend. He wanted to look at a Browning Medalist that they had on their website. Got there and asked the salesman if we could see it. He said we do not have that here. I showed him the picture of it stating that they had it. He said we sold that months ago. Asked him why it was still showing on the website and he responded "I don't have anything to do with that".
