dear s&w forum im an amateur writer and recently i posted a thread needing help with a detective story that i am writing, and you really gave me a lot of help. you gave me so much help in fact that i have decided to use everybodies gun suggestions as part of my detective characters gun collection and from that collection i will chose the guns that my detective will use for his job as a private detective. sincerely and respectfully mg357 a proud member of the s&w forum. p.s. thank you again for all of your help.

GREEAT idea to have the detective own a gun collection and choose what's best for a particular job or situation!

A lot of us have gun accumulations - I don't really collect anything per se, just end up with a bunch. However, people who tend to have to rely on a gun to potentially save their live tend to carry either the same gun, variants of a family, or at least something that works the same or simpler. Has to do with muscle memory. Thus if someone carries a cocked and locked .45, where the safety is pushed down to fire - they may have issues if the next day they carry a S&W/Beretta/Walther/etc DA that has a safety that you push up in order to fire. People who get really used to 1911s also tend to have problems with the control locations on a Sig.

It is relatively easy to transition to a simpler gun - such as a pull and go J frame, which is why they've always been popular back up guns (or off duty guns for LE).
