Attending my local church for Easter Sunday service I can't help but wonder where all these people are coming from. It's the same with Christmas. It's hard to get a seat especially the one I sit in every week. I have to be careful since I don't want to be judgemental and this is certainly not an issue to lose sleep over. However I have to admit that I sit there and think that if you can only show up twice a year why bother? I then tell myself that coming twice a year is better then not at all and that I'm far from perfect (as my wife will remind me). My pastor actually starts out his sermon by welcoming these C & E Catholics. He doesn't call them that but he does ask them in a nice way to consider coming more often. In the end I guess we should judge not...but I had to vent. Thanks.

Same thing here. I made the comment to my parish priest that now that he had a church full-it was time to hit them with the "Times are hard-we need money" speech. He chuckled and told me he'd see me in the confessional booth for that one :D

Not that much different in the Methodist church I attend. I saw a friend on Sunday morning that I hadn't seen in almost two years. He was surprised to learn that I had been on military duty for the last 20 months and said he wished he had known. I couldn't resist pointing out that it was listed in the church bulletin every Sunday.

I think the Christian thing to do is welcome them and be glad they are coming to church. Coming to church anytime is better than nothing and maybe if the regulars are nice they will want to do it more often. It would be a nice world if we all lived as God tells us to. The Baptist have C&E members too. It is also hard not to joke about it. Larry

It was never my intent to start any kind of religious discussion. When I read ohio's comment I went straight to the rules and saw the "no religion" in big bold red letters. Yikes!! I was just on a rant, that it, case closed.

I figured out how to delete my response, and did so as I don't want to be in violation of the Rules.

If all Christian churches have one thing in common, it's the "twice a year" folks. We went to a sunrise service this time so the C & E'ers could have seats at the 11:00 service.

Big +1 to that

My Pentecostal church was brimmin' full. (I'm personally a Baptist called to minister to the Pentecostals, so I'm a Bapticostal).:D I was glad to see all those new folks, and I hope they come back.
The thing that always gets me though is the way most folks dress, even on Easter. I'm only 46, but I was raised to always look like you're ready for the casket when you're in church, at least on Sunday morning. There were folks there in shorts and flip-flops. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're there, and I make them feel totally welcome, but I'll never go that route. My Mom and Dad raised me the old fashioned way, I don't ever intend to change. I wore a pinstriped Zoot suit with really cool saddle shoes (kinda looked like a '20s gangster). I wish we could go back to the old ways sometimes.

"Christmas and Easter" Our church was full last week as well. A friend of mine calls them Chreasters.

I call myself imperfect. That's why I only go twice a year:)

Plus the fact that I dont like feeling conflicted about being judgemental...he he he

A little bit of water in the face and going to meeting every Sunday seems to make some folks think they have a right to look down their nose at other people.

My daughter joked on our short drive Sunday morning practicing her "I haven't seen you since Christmas, not unless you count school or Facebook, how have you been?" speech.
