Another Federal .38+p+ 147 gr HS question

My new Federal 38+P+ 147s fired from my Model 28 4" went
935 fps today. Really accurate combination. Can't say about
flash though, but I would assume the "tactical" line it
is a part of would have flash suppressed powder.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the chronograph data. Assuming this is a flash-suppressed load is at your own risk. Based on my experiences shooting the dark, this load is pretty bright.

I figure it is better at night than what I used to carry in my 357-
Remington full power 357 125gr. Those loads make a 3' fireball!

Dan, when I first started using 125 gr. Remingtons (2 1/4" Taurus 605) in the '90s, the flash was much worser than it is now. They've obviously switched powders. I thought you might want to know, if you haven't tried recent manufacture of that load. I'm not sure when the switch to flash suppressed powders happened, but have no doubt that it did.

I used to love shooting the UMC brand 125gr JSP's through a 3" SP101. I used to rent this gun at the local range every now and then just for the fireballs. 3 feet is not an exaggeration! I seem to remember shooting a few over the chrono and they were upwards of 1500fps. This was back in the '90's.

I would NOT want to touch one of these off without earplugs, especially in an enclosed area!

Flop-shank, thanks. It'll be my carry round in that gun for sure, at least until I move to Maine next summer.

Flop Shank,

Thanks, I did not know that. I have not been able to find any new Rem 357 125gr recently as they are so popular. I can find a few 1980s-1990s
boxes sporadically. Sir, check back on the frangibles thread is you get a chance. I posted a reply to clarify some of my rants on M&S.

Dan, I read your reply, I just need a quiet and big enough block of time to reply, so while reading and replying as I feel I should in this forum to everything else, I've had to wait to answer your last post. In the meantime, what's his face can keep getting fat on popcorn. :D

Stiab:...I've got two cases of that 38+p+ sitting at my house..Shoots great and I didnt notice a huge problem with flash...Thoughts on shooting it out of a Model 10-8??? I've shot a few through it just for fun in an old police gun...Felt very smooth..Not much jump.
