Finally sighted in my scope at the range yesterday and something very funny, yet painfull happended. While firing the 15-22 on 2 occassions the shell ejected, bounced off wall next to me and then went right down my shirt in the back getting lodged at the small of my back and leaving a nice burn mark. This happened not once, but twice! This had more to do with the fact the range shelf is low and I was using a bi-pod and having to lean way down to look thru my scope, so it made it easy for the shells to hit me after bouncing off the wall. I was jumping around like I had ants in my pants trying to get the shell out with one hand while holding the gun in the other...it was pretty funny but the girls next to my lane who were learning how to shoot for the first time got a bit scared when I started dancing the jig. They didnt know what was going on. Ha.

So anyways, I know I have seen a piece that covers the ejection chamber so the shells dont fly in the air. Who has a link to where I can buy one?

Thanks! Oh and another 200 rounds of CCI without one single issue. The gun hasnt misfired or jammed once. Love it.

I would like an item like this as well....this guin really chucks the brass!

I assume you were wearing a shirt that had a collar on it, which acts as a funnel for hot brass. Wear a T-shirt instead. ;)

I know how you feel, some how the hot shells goes down my front, and have little burns on the belly. I guess I'll have to wear turtle neck, ha ha.:D

Try shooting lefty! After my first trip to the range my right arm was covered with at least 20 small burns where a shell bounced off the barrier and hit my right forearm.

Luckily I'd been warned on this forum about collared shirts, but one shell still managed to lodge itself briefly between my neck and my t-shirt. Small price to pay, I say :)

Ah, hell, it only stings for a second, grit yer teeth and keep firin'!

The .22LR cools pretty quick, .223's, 45's and 9 mm's cook for quite a while.

Was at the range last Friday and my 15-22 was chucking the brass at the
range officer, who just got up and moved a bit further away...

This exact same thing happened to me last week. I've decided to go on a bacon rich diet to fill out my shirts better.

Quick and easy brass deflector can be made by tying a scrap of leather or heavy fabric onto the scope or rings, and draping it over the ejection port...

thanks for the help but didnt I see someone that has just a little plastic flap that just sits right on top of the chamber so the brass deflects straight down? I could have swore Ive seen a post where someone had one.

The catch net would eliminate the brass from flying but Id rather just have that flap so it deflects downward instead of flying up in the air.

thanks again.

Take a tip from a motorcycle rider. Wear long sleeves and button your collar. BTW, if you've ever caught a Wasp in your shirt at 60 mph you'd know why so many older riders batten down the hatches.

I'll also tell that in the future you really shouldn't be jumping around just because you've caught some hot brass, it aint safe and it really doesn't do much good. In the future just ignore it and it'll stop burning after a second or two. Just calmly set the gun on the bench and reach into your shirt and peel that casing free.

22 isnt too bad, it sucks when you are being showered with it though haha....the 30 carbine from my m1carbine and the 30-06 from my garand are another story, they do two things...first, they come ROCKETING out of the action probably at near light speed, and secondly, they come out from this speed at incredibly hot temperatures. the garand brass we usually have to let sit on the ground for a couple minutes before you can even touch it.

they do make some brass defelectors though, then you just have to worry about them ending up in your lap.

Mine isn't plastic, but not sure if you was thinking of mine or not? Don't know if I have a closer pic

Yes, just like yours. That is what Im referring to. Is that custom made?

Side note: I was wearing a t-shirt with a wife beater (aka tight undershirt tank top) under it but the way I was leaning over was the reason there was an opening for the shells to go right down the back. Once lodged in the wife beater it was pretty damn hot even for a .22 shell.

Another side note, I have a Road King Classic so Im all to familiar with your wasp story. :)

Suck it up. No pain no gain. I had one land on my lip before. If I dont leave with one arm burn I didnt shoot enough.
Besides chicks dig scars :D
