BUT he had to check in his revolver at the post. He did say that they were changing the procedure if you had a approved gun safe. I wonder if Reno and holder were up there giving advise.

I think they have been up there GETTING advice. They want us to be like them.

One thing about cop cars, the suburban Barney Fifes have much nicer rides than the city police. In Hartford you'll see some fairly ratty looking squad cars rolling around. Hard to find one without a dent or scrape. All that action, I would assume. I remember the 60s and 70s and all the battered police cars (Plymouth Furys) rolling around Hartford with no hub caps and dents front, sides and back.

Yeah, I rememeber when I lived in Chicago the Chicago cars were pretty trashed out, roll up windows, I don't think they had AC, and the Oakbrook Terrace folks were driving air-conditioned Oldsmobiles or Pontiacs with power windows.

seems to vary almost daily between a smith forum and a what can we find wrong with a police agency forum....sadly so little is said as to how many nice things the various officers/agents do

I had 3 or 4 LA cops that were friends of mine that commuted down there. One had a big van and was on the bomb squad with all his equipment. I could see that.

Several small towns around me, really villages, have old police cars permanently parked with manikins in uniforms in them! One of these days I will take a picture of one and post it.

I was telling a friend of mine, a shift commander in the New Hampshire State Police, about being duped into slowing down by a uniformed manikin in a radar cruiser in the valley of the I-84 median in Connecticut.

My friend started laughing and I let him know I didn't think it was all that funny. "I'm not laughing at you," he replied, "we tried that on I-93 in New Hampshire and somebody stole the manikin! (Probably another of New Hampshire's state troopers,)" he added.

I know of three villages around me that use them. The first time I seen it I thought, man that cop sure looks like a inbred throwback! The wife laughed and said, no, its a dummy! I drove around the block, and she was right! Fredona arizona, orderville, glendale and panaca utah has them. Thats right in poligamist country near zion national park on hyway 89. Saw them again last saturday when we took a drive through zion.
