Hi All, I inherited this ol .38 CTG and I was wondering if any of you fine people can share light on it... Is it real or a replica?
Is it really from the 1900's??

Welcome to the Forum. There are 5 models of 38 Hammerless revolvers defined by collectors. You have a 38 Safety, 4th Model, while production ended with the 5th Model. One must remember that the factory made over a quarter-million of this model, from 1 to 261,493. Production took place between 1887 to 1940. BATFE states that the 38 top break hammerless revolvers are antiques if serial # is below 119,900. That means made before the start of 1899. It is likely that your revolver shipped around 1908, so all laws and regulations for "modern" firearms apply.

You have a very nice example of the 4th Model. The .38 CTG indicates that it is chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge (the CTG stamped on the barrel). Many of these were kept in nightstand drawers and survive today in pristine condition. Because so many were produced and many survived in very nice condition, the value is somewhat low. I'm a lousy 'guesser' but I'll say it is in the $450 range. As a family heirloom, it' priceless. Document it and pass it down to younger family members who would cherish such items.
