A friend talked me into going to a small local firehouse gun show this morning - maybe 80 tables. Was not looking to really buy anything, but found a nice "S" numbered 28-2, 4 inch, with original diamond checkered grips. Guy wanted $550.00.

Walked away, thought about it, then went back and offered him $500. We settled on $525. Not perfect, cosmetically, but very clean and tight. No box. Figured it would make a nice shooter. Every time I go to a gun show, my wallet takes a hit...

Question - serial number is S2457**. Can someone give me a date of manufacture?

Thanks

Larry

Great deals to be had at the old Firehouse gun shows! Of course I always have to check out the fire apparatus as well!
Nice catch!,,,,,,Enjoy! ;)

I saw one just like that at a local WI gunshow last Saturday, only it was sporting football targets and the gun had slightly more original finish.

The fellow wanted seven and a quarter, but it was not my day to buy...I was looking to sell, actually.

Yours looks great and was certainly a good buy!

Thanks for the supportive comments R/E my "S&W sickness"...lol. I had a pair of smooth Osage Orange foot ball targets laying around from my first model 28, bought back in 1978. They look nice on this 28 as well. Pretty as those diamond magna's are, they just do not fit my hand...

After approximately 19 replies you really don't need me to tell you what a solid buy you made. A buddy bought a 28-2 (N prefix as I remember) like yours in Gainsville last week for $575 which I thought was OK. I had passed on it only because I just did not need it. Nice gun.
