Another M&P

I just found another M&P (S/N: S 8143XX) at a gun show today. It retains all of the factory finish (except for a very slight turn line that has not gone through the blue) with number matching stocks and a factory filled lanyard hole.
I still need to wipe it down, learn how to properly post pictures and really need to work on my photography skills, but here it is anyway...

Thanks...I felt like it was a pretty good deal for $350 and kind-a figured the stocks are worth almost as much as the revolver; according to "FleaBay" prices.

S&W 10, Your gun just missed having the SV prefix to the digits of the serial number, and was probably shipped mid 1946. Close numbers just below yours, shipped in April 1946, have the SV prefix as S&W used up the remaining Victory Model frames from WW2 production. Nice find for $350. Minty SV numbers can run twice that, however. Ed #15

Great buy on those grips...and you got a gun for free!
I have S 829071 which shipped in July, 1946. Mine has a plugged lanyard ring hole in the butt and the letter "S" on the sideplate under the right grip indicating the safety hammer block. I also have the maroon box numbered to the gun.

Sure hate to dig up an old post, but I'm in need of a little assistance.

Yesterday I was contacted by the friend who sold me this M&P and was informed by him that the original owner has located what he believes may be the original maroon box and cleaning tools.
The nice old gentleman has a fairly large assortment of firearms that he's been slowly selling off and we would like to keep a friendly relationship with him, i.e. access to some very nice 1960's & earlier hardware, by paying a finders fee of sorts...
If the box is found to be correct and in good condition, what do you feel would be a fair dollar amount to offer?

Assuming the box and tools are in good condition, I'd offer $100. If the box has tears or blown corners, and if the brush is bent or worn to nubs, maybe half that. Confirm that the serial number on the box (if it has one) is the same as for the gun you bought.

I never said so when this thread was active the first time, but that's a great catch. You have room to be a little generous on the box.

Mr. Wilson, thanks for the quick response.
The box should be dropped off at my office later this week for inspection; the original owner did mention to my buddy 5", square butt on the end of the lid and a number being hand written in the bottom, but said "I just can't make it out with my old eyes". If the numbers match I'll buy it regardless of condition and adjust your stated prices accordingly.
Also, some sort of S&W screwdriver will be included as well...maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be the proper sight adjustment tool for a M&P Target, .22 Outdoorsman, 22/32 Target...whatever it is, it's a bonus!
