Along with the 1898 Krag I posted yesterday, I just picked up a Mauser style actioned, single shot, .22lr, Erma DSM 34. Used in pre-WWII Germany to train para-military style youth groups. This style rifle allowed them to legally skirt the post WWI weapons restrictions imposed on them.

My second rifle (to fire, long before I owned one) was an M1 chambered in .22. After one shot through a standard M1 it was clear I was too small to handle it, so they dragged out the .22 version. Someone mentioned that they hadn't used it since preparations for Korea deployment.

Wish I had one now.

Kaaskop & hoc9sw,
The front sight is a barley corn sight similar to the service 98. Erma, post-war, made a M1 carbine style carbine and called it the EM1. It was supplied to German law enforcement in large quantities as a trainer for the U.S. M1 carbine being supplied by the U.S. government.

Very interesting. Wouldn't think you'd need a trainer for the M-1 Carbine; it's so easy to shoot. Almost no recoil. Thanks.

Some years ago I gave my son a Norinco Mauser-style .22 that seemed to ba a trainer, though the military-type stock was not the 98 style. Action was pure Mauser including safety configuration. Paid $88 for it. He told me it's very accurate. He used it to train all three of his sons on bolt actions.

I have no idea why the Chinese made a rifle with that action.

Shouldazagged,
That $88, Norinco .22 caliber, 98 Mauser style rifle is now about $300-$350 or so. They are reasonably common in the U.S. and many people like and enjoy them.

Your lgs have military trainers in gun racks full of dust no one knows what they are.

Very nice. I imagine it's worth considerable money. War time kar 98ks that are all matching in decent shape are bringing $1200 or more from collectors these days.

Samco global arms still sells mauser ww2

Don't forget the Finnish mosins. These were captured Russian mosins in the winter war of '39. And reworked by the Finnish till they shot 1" MOA.
