Another Model 48

The only nickel guns that have any attraction to me are ones near perfect. This one isn't perfect but still pretty nice. I traded for it a couple of weeks ago and no doubt have too much in it. The last 2 digits have been taken out of s/n in second pic.
Which stocks do you guys think were originally on the gun?

That is a sweetheart. Probably came with magnas, but diamond/football target stocks are right as rain. Actually, anything but snowtires would look great. By the way, you don't have too much into it. Whatever you gave for that gem is just about right!

Beautiful. The Model 48 was my first revolver, bought in 1970 when I was 22--blued, 8 3/8s, diamond magnas, $102. Sold her to buy a 10-speed Italian bicycle in amorous pursuit of redhead. The bike and the redhead are long gone. Wish I still had the 48.

I've applied for a letter from Mr. Jinks mainly to verify (or not) that the nickel finish is original. What I've seen on here is a wait of about 2 months.

Is there a B or an N on the barrel flat forward of the serial number?

Mike, the barrel flat has no markings. And none on the frame where my other nickels have a bold "N".

You might also want to check to see if there's an (N) stamped on the Cylinder under the Extractor Star!! I'm not saying I believe the Finish to be Original...only that if it were...it will likely have an (N) stamped there even though no (N) was stamped on the Frame!!

Another indication that leads me to believe this was refinished in Nickel after it left the factory is the fact the Frt. Sight is Nickel-Plated as well...Very Uncommon In The Time-Frame This Was Built!!

Masterpiece, there's a mark under the star that appears to be a "K", not an "N" or a "B".

I have a M48-3 nickle that I just bought from a fellow forum
member. # 10K 0228, absolutely NO xxx's. Originally shipped in 1977, it was returned later for a nickel job 10-1982 and evidently had a red ramp and white outline sights installed. It does have three "T"s now. This is also a rather late gun to have a numbered 8 3/8" bbl. and cylinder. Both numbers are preceded by a "star". I am not going to letter this beautiful revolver as it would not show the factory work. It also have the RN on the grip frame. Big Larry
