I've been lurking around here for a bit (since inheriting my Model 28-2). I've owned a few HK, Colts, Springfields, with this being my first S&W. Let me say, this thing is such a shooter. Man, I wish I would've had it years earlier.

Welcome from Iowa.
We love Highway Patrolman revolvers around here, post a pic if you can.

I'll try to get a pic up soon. I think I'm the first person to clean it in 30 years, so it has a little bit of pitting. I've taken off the original (and matching number) grips and replaced them with a Hogue grip for now. I just wanted something bigger than the originals. I really want to go to a custom wood grip though.

I do have some questions about the serial number. In The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread, I see most of the numbers posted having S or N with 6 digits. My serial number is N with 4 digits. Am I to assume that it's a 1969-1972 production model?

The Catalog says N1 stated in 1970 and N60,000 was in 1972.
What is the barrel length?
