Been perusing for awhile to help make a decision on a pistol. Well I bought myself M&P 9 full size yesterday as a b'day present to myself. Tried Glock and others but for the money and the way it fit in my hand and S&W longstanding rep. it was a no brainer.

The rental I shot at the range had a very smooth trigger, probably from use. I now know what is meant by "gritty" on my new gun. Haven't shot it yet, I'm going this afternoon. I'll wait to see how it performs. I've read on here that it will work itself in. Or maybe the APEX system I read about on here. Have to look into that more.

I'm sure I'll have questions as I am new to pistols. actually been a long while since I was involved with long guns.

Well I went and put about 125 rounds through last Sat. Groups were good. I need more practice. The targets were laughing at me. Got to shoot more. My CCW class has been moved up to this Sat.

And Mrs. thought the boat was an expensive hobby. SShh. Don't tell her.

My trigger has smoothed out quite a bit after 5-600 rounds.

Welcome to the club! It's gonna start at the Apex kit and then you'll want different sights......especially if the white paint flakes off like mine did after 200rds :)

Here is my small family and planing on adding shortly.

Congratulations!!! I bought mine last month! Gonna go get some professional Education and Training at SigSauer Academy here in NH, and join my local range ASAP.

Me too

I jumped in yesterday (04-27), too. I also got the M&P 9 full size (4.25" barrel). I've only shot range rentals, but did well with those, so I went for a new one for myself. The feel, you mentioned, was what put me near the edge. It is perfect for my hand with medium palm swells.
Good shooting with your new M&P.
Spike:D

Better find a place in your safe for the other M&P calibers. It's a disese.

When I first heard this I thought people were kidding. Now I have an M&P9 and an M&P15-22 to go with my M&P45 and I'm thinking about getting the M&P40c (Because I need a compact)

And wait until you start finding you like to shoot some revolvers!

for years, the best grip size for my hand was the sgi 220 single stack,in 45 acp.
the other sig guns were to fat,.for some reason the 22 fit like a glove.
the only grip that is just about like the 220,in my hand is the mp full size with medium or big palmswell.i have 9 mp's and growing

Hi,

It seems we have similar families. I have these in 9mm compact and FS w/ night sight. However I seem to be more accurate with the compact than the full size, and have been this way for a while. My triggers are worn in, but still a bit heavy. Is it in my best interest to get the Apex trigger job done on one or both of mine? Most of my accuracy issues with the full size seem to be low and the spread is wider. I have a friend who shoots pretty well, who found the same results, so it may not be entirely my shooting issues. Is this a typical problem.

OK went to the range yesterday and brought the wife. I Still shoot low left. Should mean I'm jerking the trigger. Trigger is getting better but still not great. I then do the empty casing exercise... doesn't even move!!!

Wife wants to try. 5 shot group, 2 in the 10 ring on the chest, 2 in the 10 ring on the head and then says 1 to neck.... and does it!!!! 1st time with the gun and only the second time with a pistol in her whole life. This was at 10 yds.

I think I need to send her to CCW class tomorrow.

If you are right handed, you are most likely anticipating the recoil and pushing the firearm down and to the left in anticipation.

Since it was her first time, most likely she is not anticipating and has not picked up any of the bad habits. Thus, her shooting was much better. :)

sdarc, sounds like you have your own personal body guard in the making! Keep her at it!

haha, girls do really good when they start out shooting. My girl shoots some real good grouping too! haha as everyone tells me at the range: "You better not piss her off!" haha.
R1 Demon is 100% right , hopefully she wont pick up any bad habits along the way as well !

All the best, and happy shooting :)

I also agree..most females tend to shoot very well straight out of the box, so to speak. They seem to have a natural hand/arm position of holding the firearm and do very well. I have seen this time and time again.

Most of the time I see bad habits develop when or if they try and fire too powerful of a handgun and the recoil starts to freak them out, so then they start anticipating (and thus start to shoot low & left if right handed or low & right if left handed). Or if the firearm is too big for them to hold comfortably and the have a hard time with the grip because they have smaller hands. Otherwise, they generally do very well...and yes...don't piss them off. LOL :D

CCW class went well. There was a lady of middle age that brought her .38. She said she had only fired a pistol 46 rounds (this one) and hit the can twice at about 12'. After a little "schooling" from the instructor puts 6 shots, 1.5" group, at 15' in the 10 ring!!!!

My shooting was much better. It "seems" I do better shooting faster than "thinking about it" as you do for qualification. Practice with the .22 Ruger helped too.

You lucky ******* lol. I can only imagine how safe i would feel if I could take a CCW class here in Canada- don't ever let your guard down against those brady bunch idiots otherwise you'll end up like us!
