Got it for Father's Day cleaned lubed and shot it. Had several fail to feeds. I lubed it by the manual. But racking the slide didn't seem as smooth as it should be. I used rem oil. New to hand guns but not new to guns. Been reading and learning on here for some time now. And hello.

I am still having the same issues with mine after the first 300 rounds.
The action did smooth out a lot but the gun still malfunctions and also ejects empty shells at my face and forehead 100% of the time. Needles to say its going back to S&W today.

Howdy, welcome to the forum.
Just a suggestion, load the mags and let them sit 5-7 days.
That will help the springs to not be so tight and allow proper feeding.

Also, semis are more affected by limp wresting than revolvers.
Might try different ammo too.

A light amount of oil is good, a very light amount. Just keep it off the striker.
I use a small dab of grease on the rails and slide. Actually apply it with a toothpick.

Thanks and yes I'll try all of the above it did get some what better with a firmer grip.

Yup, semiautos are a different breed but with a firm grip, even lookup the two handed grip, you will see better results.
If you shoot at a range, see if the RO will give you some pointers.

Good luck and have fun shooting.

Before you send a new gun back, have an experienced shooter put 1-2 mags through it.
And then try different ammo. Rule out the easy ones before the pistol is to blame...:)

Seeing as how it's your first hand gun, I'm going to lean towards you just need a little practice and instruction. Great buy for a first handgun!!

Same issue for me yesterday. Put 200 rounds thru it with maybe 4 jams...wouldnt eje t spent shell...and it does like to kick empties at the face, lol...

I don't think it's the gun ... Being it's my first hand gun.... I figured I lubed it wrong.. Cheap ammo Aguila 124 gr. or I was to blame. I live out in the country so my yard is my range. When I get to town later this week I'll get some different ammo. I think I got it lubed better. I'm going to load up the mags and let them set and give it another try.

Man, I haven't had any issues like that with my SD40-VE. I've only had one failure to feed, and that was from an intentional limp wristed shot. The slide stopped about a 1/4" from going into full battery. A small bump to the rear and she fired that round too. Hope both of you guys get the issues ironed out. These are great pistols...

Matt

One thing I know from lurking around here for sometime now is I 'll get good advise and get going down the right road. I have rifles and shotguns but this is my first hand gun.
It is going to be a leaning experience and I knew it going in that's why I got this gun and hang out here.

Had to polish my feed ramp to address my fte and Ftf issues. Thumbs forward is a great grip. The indent on frame makes it easy. Look it up. Great advice above posts too

I've only shot a few hundred rounds through my new SD9VE but it is perfect for me. No FTF, FTE, jams, or whatever. I agree that some instruction may be in order. No offense meant.

Welcome from Texas.
My first pistol and gun is my SD9VE that I got last year. Only had 1 or 2 issues with it on the first range trip. I blame it on limb wristing. Polished the feedramp and the contactpoints of the trigger bar and sear to smoothen the action and eliminate the possibility for failures to feed. My mags took some time to get broken in but after a while I was able to get all 16 in, not just 15. No problems whatsoever after that. It is what it is -> AN AWESOME PISTOL - LOVE IT!

SD9VE FTE

I've recently purchase my SD and have put about 200 rounds of ammo through it. The first 50 were Winchester 115gr and I had a couple of ftes, the next time I use Federal 115gr and had more than a half a dozen ftes. I've seen where the spent shell was stuck in the extractor and another round was fed but most of time the shell is in the extracter and the next round is floating, meaning not in the chamber but also not in the mag....

That's weird, I've fired around 200 rounds with my VE with WWB and Federal rounds, FMJ and Hydrashoks, with no problems at all. No failures at all, in fact the Federals eject pretty far compared to other guns I've fired, I thought that was a bit odd....

Update, polished feed ramp and lubed gun properly shot 50 rounds of Aguila 124 FMJ this morning with no issues. Thanks for all the good advise.

Had a lot of trouble with the exact same issues today...put 125 rnds of win 115 and had at least ten foul ups, and the spent shell was hard to remove...seemed to be jammed near the top, blocking the round underneath...scrubbing the area with a brush didn't work...
And that trigger! Lol...

lol last thing 1st... sd9ve my trigger smoothed out a lot around 500 rounds thru the tube, FTFs? never had 1 so i cant help cept to say mine will not do 16+1 never has and at 2700 rounds now, i load 16 in mag slide it in with slide back and close it... some one said load your mags and let them sit for a week IT WORKS lol. as for throwing the brass back at you mine throws brass every which a way. hope this helps...shoot safe and alot :D:D

the problem is not ftf but fte, and since it happens so often i can't depend on this weapon for self defense at this time... to bad, really like the weapon, and yes the trigger pull takes some time to get used to..
