So I got my LTC in my state (Mass) not too long ago and my first gun was the M&P 40C which I love. I went on to find a mint condition like new 2nd Gen Glock 19 which I also love. I've shot both and to me the whole 9mm vs .40 S&W isn't a huge deal I like both. Now after tons of research and watching videos day and night I am torn between getting a 9mm shield or a 40. I am asking everyone out there who has shot both and what they prefer...please help!

I have carried over 30 years and do shoot what I carry on a regular basis. Bought Shields in both calibers and sold the .40 after a few range trips. I think the 9mm is the way to go as modern ammo levels the playing field.

I can't give you a comparison, as I jumped straight into the .40, and fell in love with it. I'm a virtual novice when it comes to these type of pistols, and I love the way it shoots, and have zero malfunctions with it. I don't think you can go wrong either way, its probably just a personal preference thing. One advantage I did find was that when there was no 9mm on the shelf locally, there was always .40, and it still is that way here.

Agreed. I rented and shot the 40 first, thinking it would be my choice because I also own a Glock 23 Gen4. I was surprised at how much muzzle flip there was, and I attribute it to a high pressure round being fired from a relatively small gun.
Later, when a 9mm became available (at a good price) I bought it based on nothing more than how I EXPECTED it to shoot...and I wasn't disappointed! Only my Browning HP shoots as well, but it's not a carry gun.
Buy the 9 - you'll be glad you did.

I just picked up my 9mm Shield this morning, and during the initial cleaning and familiarization, I note in the instruction manual that the "Rear Sight" cannot be adjusted and do not try. I note the presence of a allen set screw in the rear sight which i set in a dovetail. Is this not to be used to adjust the windage? If so why not?

, I have both 9mm shield (3wks old) and a 40c, and LOVE both but the shield with the Ma compliant trigger is a JOY to shoot honestly in my opinion & I will not touch it, the 40 on the other hand will be getting an APEX kit in a few weeks but the 9 is fine as it is but that's just my opinion, as for issues2 failures to eject but kinda figured out what I think it was, magazine issue

I personally like the 9 and love it after going through the issues that have been written about on this forum. It now works flawlessly. If you are interested in a new Shield and qualify for LEO prices, this is a really good deal $329.00. I just got the email yesterday.

I can't give you a comparison but I have a glock 27 which is a 40. I have always thought 9mm was not enough fire power for defense reasons. I've grown to change that way of thinking and decided to go to 9mm. I couldn't get the g19 I wanted so I picked up the sheild. I would say it feels good in my hands and I am confident in it doing it's job if need be. 9mm for me

i have a sigma in 40, a 40c and i ended up buying my wife a shield 9mm. two weeks later i bought a used shield 40 for myself to carry. after my wife shot the shield 40, she told me i have the 9mm shield, she will carry the shield 40. neither of us noticed that much of a difference in the two...my only issue is that i am slowly building up my 9mm supply
