Not to hijack bushmaster1313 thread on vintage ammo for his Triple Lock I'll start a new one.

The knowledge, and willingness to take the time to share that knowledge, on this forum is amazing.

Special thanks to bushmaster1313 for starting his thread, to DWalt for the info on Remington ammo boxes 1908-1945, and to Bill Patteson for the 38-44 Heavy Duty ammunition article in the Summer SWCA Journal.

I purchased the red Remington "44 S&W Special Smokeless" box at our Tulsa Symposium, then found the green Remington dog bone boxes of 44 special and 38-44 at this year's Charlotte symposium. Armed with my new-found knowledge I'm happy to share:
1) My Triplelock with the red Remington 44 Special box from 1913-1914.
2) My Second Model 44 Target and Third Model Wolf and Klar with the Remington dog bone 44 special manufactured 1930-1933.
3) The two pre-war Outdoorsman with the Remington dog bone 38-44 manufactured 1930-1933.

I recognize those boxes :D

Glad to see they fit your collection well. When I saw the 44 dogbone box at a show I figured some one would need it.

Next you need the Red/green box. I believe it was very late prewar.

Nice stuff. I have a box of 1940 vintage Rem. 44 ammo that I bought from Ray T. Giles. Had to be a nice box to go with my MIB 38-44 Outdoorsman shipped in 1940. I too am collecting this type ammo, but I find it hard to find, and very expensive. Big Larry

On my pic the first box on top 38-44 came from Ray also.

Regarding the half green, half red Remington boxes, you are correct. I have two such .357 boxes, both date as late 1941. I may possibly have one box of some rifle caliber that way, but I would have to mount a search. I am not sure exactly what that color scheme means, possibly used to indicate only certain loadings or calibers. I'll see if I can find an answer. The only information I presently have is that style was used for only a short time and that both handgun and rifle cartridge green/red boxes are known. Below is one of my two .357 boxes and a box of .38 Special Hi-Speed metal penetrating. Note the $2 price tag on the top one. That may or may not be the original price. The tag was on it when I bought the box some years ago.
