A gentleman that I know came up to me and said "Hey I got this when my brother passed, what is it?" I looked it over and told him "it's a S&W revolver in .38 special. Other than that I'm lost". Any help would be appreciated and a approximate value.

Looks to me like a 5" Heavy Duty someone added adjustable sights to. Serial number could help nail down a date, but I'm also betting prewar....

Agreed. It has the one line address on the frame,(a pre-war frame).

However, that is a postwar serial number in the ejector rod recess.

King sights. Nice.

Any action work on it?
