No doubt it's Grayback, one of the pictures shows the builders plate that reads "USS Grayback."

"The wreck of World War II submarine USS Grayback has been discovered off Japan 75 years after its sinking by a Japanese bomber.

The submarine was found on June 5, by the Lost 52 Project, which locates lost U.S. World War II submarines. In a statement translated from Japanese, the Lost 52 Project explained that the USS Grayback (SS-208) is the first U.S. submarine discovered off the coast of Japan.

Japanese records indicate that the sub was sunk by a 500-pound bomb dropped by a naval bomber in February 1944. The bomb hit aft of the Grayback's conning tower and the sub sank with the loss of her 80-strong crew..."

Kudos to the Lost 52 Project for their efforts in trying to locate and identify the remains for the 52 U.S. Navy submarines lost/sunk in WWII. I think to date 7 have been found, 5 locations are definitely unknown and the group is working diligently to track the final resting place of those remaining.

Read we lost 52 subs during the war. Nice when they locate them. Might give surviving family members some closure.

I just went to the Lost 52 website and they list 9 subs lost during the war that have been found and 5 of them they attribute to their efforts.

I hope this brings closure to the descendants of the crew of this sub.
