I'm thinking about buying a 64 MPR . I would greatly appreciate any thoughts and opinions on this rifle. I will be bench shooting primarily at 40 to 100 yards. I know this is a big if but if I do my part with ammo that it likes what size groups can I realistically expect at 100 yards? Also thoughts on the two stage trigger would be appreciated because the only two stage triggers I have shot were military. Thanks in advance for your time and input. Dan

I looked at one a couple weeks ago at Euro Optics. Nice rifle, expensive. Very well made, smooth action. Didn't try the trigger.

I do most of my .22 shooting for accuracy at 50 yards from the bench. An Accurate rifle should shoot 1/2 inch 5 shot or less groups, in my opinion. I have three that will do so, a Mossy target rifle, a Kimber, and a CZ. That 1517 should do at least as well, I would expect.

Group size is dictated by so many things......make sure to start with the best quality ammo you can afford. Use the best optics you can afford, use the most stable rest.

I use my 1813 Anschutz in Outdoor Prone matches at 100 yards/meters and to be competitive, I must have ammo that will shoot under 3/4" for a 10 shot string. If I don't have that there is no way I can be in the winners circle.....almost every other shooter already has gear and ammo that will shoot under 1/2"

So in order to out perform them... I need to have total confidence in all aspects of my gear and ammo......that usually means I shoot Eley Tenex, RWS R100, my Russian Olymp/Temp (used very sparingly). Lapua Midas Plus etc.......then read the wind better than every one else....

Bench Rest helps eliminate many human variables however.

If you buy the rifle, try to buy a box of a number of premium grade ammunition and see what YOUR rifle favors....it might not be ANY of the premium grades....

The other way would be to start with CCI Standard velocity (0032) and work up.

The rifle will certainly show its sweet spot either way.......

Hope that helps in some manner!

I had a couple of Anschutz, a 1407 (54 action) that I shot in prone match's, and on a good day (no wind) with the right ammo, (Fiocchi SM 320) I have shot several 5 shot groups of 1/4" from solid bench rest. Rifle equipped with a Unertle 1 1/2" target, 20X. In prone match's it would easily hold the X ring when I did my part.

The 64 Sporter (about 1973 model) will do under an inch and frequently under 3/4". Good glass and clean bores.
