Picked up some Underwood 45-70 extreme hunting ammo over the weekend, really wicked looking stuff.

Curious if anyone has shot this load, because of the flat nose it'll work with tube fed lever actions (i.e., Marlin Trapper).

Obviously non-expanding, should be a good load for deep penetration.

Any experience??

Thanks, in advance

I was going to opine the Buffalo-Barnes +P but this stuff exceeds even that...!

The African BIG 5 (plus the hippo)...? No sweat!

Cheers!

In my experience they do not shoot to the same point of aim as a lead or jacketed bullet.

Can you expand on this please. I certainly get different loads (bullet weight and velocity) will print differently, but are you saying that another brand high performance 45-70 (example Hornady) that, in the same bullet weight and velocity they will print differently?
The only thing different at that point would be the material (these are all copper).
Obviously if these are chosen for a mission (hunting, or field animal defense, or a Big 5 safari :)), one would practice and adjust the point of impact of whatever load one would chose.

Thanks in advance

I will take a guess and say they have a much higher B.C. in a given weight vs conventional jacketed ammunition. A lighter material will require a longer bullet to achieve the same weight as a lead core bullet.
