All I have on my Model 29-5 is some cheap Hogue grips, they're alright, but I saw some pics of VZ G10 grips on an N-Frame and they looked good, but, that's a fair piece of money for something so different.

I have some Altamont Ropers on my Model 57, but to be honest I'm not crazy about them..way too skinny at the back.

Do the VZ grips work on a big N-frame. I don't shoot really hot loads, but I don't want to break my hand either.

Anyone use them?

I have VZ grips ( round to square conversion grips) on my 625 and 627. Very pleased with them

The VZ's that I have sure aren't the best with regards to "shooting comfort" when shooting guns with heavier recoil. Took them off of my 41 Magnum for that reason. They're not bad on my 44 Special. I don't think they are any wider than your Altamonts. The screw hole was cut "sharp" and I beveled it slightly. My ring finger tip fit right into the hole and was pretty painful.

The VZ grips are well made, fit the frame TIGHT, but recoil control isn't the best unless shooting more mild cartridges. That's my opinion at least. Mine are in my "box of grips". Oh….. I think they look cool! ;)

Myself, I like Herrett grips. Just the right size and feel for me. Bob

VZ revolver grips are well made and have a unique appearance. I tried a set on my 625-8 PC (round butt). I shot one IDPA match (appx 100 rounds) before removing them and replacing them with Hogue Tamers (as used on the X-frames).

As others have noted, not the most comfortable grips for anything with moderately heavy recoil (yes, the .45 ACP doesn't really produce heavy recoil, but shooting 100 rounds of major power factor loads has a cumulative effect). G-10 is very hard - it has no "give" whatsoever - even a wood grip has some give - wood is considerably softer than G-10. With G-10, every ounce of recoil energy is transferred to your hand. I had a broken thumb on my shooting hand and when the did the surgical repair, I don't have the padding in the web of my hand that I once had, it makes these grips doubly painful.

Nice looking, well made, well fitting, but if you are recoil averse, I would pass. JMO.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I'm a big fan of Herrett's Shooting Star stocks as well. They are a nice fit in my medium sized hands. The Jordan Trooper style is better suited for large hands.

I tried a set of VZ grips on my model 69. I found them too abrasive for my taste with full power loads, and without any cushion you might get from rubber stocks. I have several pairs on 1911's, where they work fine for me. I ended up putting wood grips on the 69 for a balance between comfort and looks.

I've got three sets of the VS round to square conversion grips on my N frames. All three are the Tactical Operator grip pattern as I recall.

The grip pattern is very coarse. unbearable for many, but I like the aggressiveness. Over time it got softer and my hands have gotten tougher.

The grips themselves are definitely narrower, but they fit my hands well. The front is a bit pointy, but...really, they shape well with standard 220 grit sandpaper. I softened that front edge, and they're real decent now.

The recoil thing ain't no lie. Mine are on a .45 ACP and a .357. I'm not inclined to run them on anything with heavier recoil than that.

I really like mine alot, but I'd personally think twice before putting them on a revolver with anymore wallop than what I've currently got.

I concur with the "pointy" sentiment. They are somewhat teardrop or pear shaped, with the narrow end by the trigger guard. Between the serious checkering and that profile, it's really tough to adjust an imperfect grip placement.
I love them on my M18, after some Dremel and sandpaper customization. Not so much on the bigger stuff. Oh, they fit my average hand well, but could be wider.

Dont have any on my S&W's but agree with the recoil sentiment. They will hurt.
As for the cheesegrater effect, you can soften the coarseness with some 600grit.

Exactly what I found with them on my Model 58 . That screw hole was murder on my ring finger !

This mirrors my experience with VZs on a 629 shooting full power loads.

I really like VZ grips, but they tore up my hands so I went back to the soft rubber Hogues for the 44 Magnum.
